I like it, needs a makeover obviously. The question is, would that increase its value by more than the cost of new paint/stoving and classic transfers. http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/NICK_AT_LLOYDS/decals.htm
Shame it doesn't fit you really. -

i have been looking at mercian over in derby for a re spray and i e mailed nick about getting some transfers. i think the whole job would cost around 250-275.

Nice frame. In my opinion it doesn't need a complete respray, just some loving touch-ups.

Atlantic Boulevard in Bury would be cheaper and from what I've heard are pretty good. 0161 762 0456.

Lucky!+1, resprays should only be for endangered frames, i.e. rust so bad that leaving it as is may risk the structural integrity. at least half of a bikes character is in it's paint, leave it be!

yeah doesn't look that bad. i'd clean it up with polish to get the surface rust off and touch-up (should be easy with basic flat yellow).
respray in same style inc transfers £150 at mercian.
frame as it stands £150-170 ebay. if fully renovated maybe £200-240.
looks like a mid to late 50's frame

Out of curiosity, what serial number is it? I'm currently riding a '51 Carpenter road frame (serial 46xx) that I got at the cycle jumble sale last October. This page has more info (including some serials)
http://www.classiclightweights.co.uk/builders/carpenter.html
Mine was resprayed before I got it with new decals, gold luglining, etc. by API http://www.apibikes.com/

(Photo isn't current - added Brooks saddle since then...)
(Btw Dogsballs: this is where that GB bar/stem ended up) -

Hi Chris, I have a few Carpenters. Did you get yr track frame done over? Would like to see pics if you did, and any recommendations. I use Argos in Bristol.
I don’t post much on this forum but I have been reading it sometime. I live in Manchester so I may be somewhat of an impostor.
Anyway, I am after a bit of advice.
I have a Carpenter Track frame. I rode it for about 9 months (and loved every minute of it) before getting something smaller, but still not right for me. I am looking at either a 52 or 53.
It has been dated as a 1959-1960 frame with what I believe to be Nervex pro series lugs but front lugs seem to be more ornate, perhaps shaped? It also has a wrap round rear seat stay. But the main thing is its way to big for me! It is 57.
I am in two minds as to what to do with it. Do I restore and sell it? Or sell it as it is. It has seen better days. I want it to be ridden (which I know in my hands it wont) but I would love to see the frame back to its glory days before I sell it and I don’t mind putting the money into the project.
One last question, I don’t have any idea of the worth, could anyone shed some light on this?
Cheers
Chris
