thanks for that but it only says the thickness of the tubing itself, not the actual diameter for sizing

It'll be 1" if it's for a quill stem. You can't install a modern (by which I presume you mean threadless ahead type?) headset with that fork without using a quill to ahead adaptor.

thanks to Andyp and taki for that , andy you answered what i needed to know, so i guess i need to install all the original headset, then buy one of them adapters and bolt what im after onto that thanks again
can anyone tell me the size of the columbus SLX steerer tube diameter as wanting to install a more modern headset instead of the old threaded quill, cant check myself as frame currently at sprayers
