  • I think the Lightweight logo is absolutely awesome... it stands right out in a (cycling) world of too-slick-by-half garish, gratuitous visual wankery.

See i like the logos design, but I think there are too many of them, which to me cheapens a very fancy pair of wheels.

yeah, much more important than comfort when actually riding the bike.

    But of course!

I would think oz. is getting at the fact that the bike cost a fair bit of money yet in his eyes looks awful.

See i don't see what's sooo bad. yeah bad tyres, what else is wrong? i'm not very good at this bike snobbery....

  • It's a bit De Stijl for me, the Look that is.

  • I don't think that's a bad thing.

  • Nor do I, to look at, but I couldn't get away from cultural/historical/aesthetic connotations. I don't think these connotations are a bad thing either, but on a bike like that... just doesn't add up for me. I realise this sounds a bit pretentious but... meh.

Oh and before anyone says it, I realise it was used on the jerseys of the 'La Vie Claire' cycling team also, and that this is probably where the Look paintjob comes from.

  • yeah, much more important than comfort when actually riding the bike.

Well, it would be comfortable for me, just as the illustrated set up is presumably comfortable for the owner. I was simply pointing out that almost anything looks better with a decent saddle to bar drop

  • ^^^ that's taking things to whole new level

    makes me think of this

  • Back to a point I've argued previously - how much better does it look with the chain nice and toight in the big chainring with the derailleur tensioned?

  • Well, it would be comfortable for me, just as the illustrated set up is presumably comfortable for the owner. I was simply pointing out that almost anything looks better with a decent saddle to bar drop

and almost anything looks better without an upward rise to the stem.

yours would look better with a small spacer and a flat stem. And before you say it, I don't buy the more structurally sound with no spacer argument, not with a 1cm spacer at least :-)

  • with at least 1 spacer is reccomended with carbon forks no?

  • Yeah now that you mention it, I bought a stem today and to my surprise there was a sticker on it that said you must always install a 5mm spacer under the stem, and if you have a carbon steerer you should also have a 5mm spacer on top. I don't believe it because I've never heard it before.

  • i absolutely hate the lightweight logo, it looks like they've just selected a font from MS word.

  • Yeah now that you mention it, I bought a stem today and to my surprise there was a sticker on it that said you must always install a 5mm spacer under the stem, and if you have a carbon steerer you should also have a 5mm spacer on top. I don't believe it because I've never heard it before.

Read about it a while ago, can't remember the exact wording but something about running a carbon steerer without spacers you're placing it under excess pressure. Can lead to failure.

I don't have any carbon parts so not a worry personally. I wouldn't risk fork failure for the sake of aesthetics though, have had a pair of forks fail and a front wheel fold on me, fortunately both were mountain biking, cuts and bruises, could've been alot worse doing 50 on tarmac.

Superjoe - reckon the logo would look good in the same font but big in a big semi circle around half the wheel>?

that sound pretty normal to me, especially regarding the carbon steerer.

  • i tend to agree with mdctesters comments, he is generally well informed and has huge technical and historical knowledge

its just opinions, but his i generally find to be better informed and more insightful

(i only say this cos he did not rubbish my mather)

  • Naughty, naughty, very naughty!

  • Controversial.

It doesn't float my boat either, but I can appreciate the thought that's gone into it.

  • Not clitoral enough for Pisto.

  • It's cunty enough for me, no worries there

  • Oh and before anyone says it, I realise it was used on the jerseys of the 'La Vie Claire' cycling team also, and that this is probably where the Look paintjob comes from.

Look paint job is a Mondrian interpretation.

Also that green bike has strange component choice, why the really expensive lightweight cranks with what must be a heavy steel frame, why 4 pot calipers? Thats excessive to say the least with those tyres.

  • Change the bars and that could be my cuppa.

  • velocios hybrid

we know our leader is the ultimate nodder

(bet i will be banned forever)

  • Shit, is that Velocio's??

logs off for a few weeks if he hasn't been banned already
