For Sale: Track Tandem

A friend of mine who's not on the forum has a track tandem for sale. Details below.

Extremely rare track tandem for sale. Mechanically and structurally in good condition, but as it hasn't been ridden for a while some of the parts - ie hubs and headset - could use servicing. It also needs new chainring bolts (front) and a new inner chainring (rear).

This is a pure, track-specific frame and build. No brake holes, no braking surfaces.

I can't help you with age, builder, weight or tubing, but the rest is listed below. Not desperate to get rid of it, but it's of little or no use to me so sensible offers are welcome. Sold as seen. May split. Pick-up from Shacklewell E8. Contact tracktandem@gmail.com.

Frame:
Steel, lugged/lugless, with sloping front end.
Approx measurements c-c:
Front TT: 22.5"
Rear TT: 23"
Seat tubes: 22"

Bright red paint in decent condition with a few marks and scruffs from storage over the years – see pictures.

Wheels and tyres:
32h Campag Record track hubs laced 3x to non-machined Ascent clincher rims.
23mm Vittoria Zaffiros (recently replaced).

Chainsets and chainrings:
TA Specialites tandem, 3/32”, 2x39t, 1x51t.

Handlebars/stems:
Cinelli LA84 (front), chopped-and-flipped Cinelli drop bars (rear) – I have a pair of matching LA84 bars if you want them.
Cinelli stems incl ultra-rare stoker stem.

Pedals:
MKS track (recently replaced).

Sprocket:
18t 3/32” EAI. Campag lockring.

BBs:
Shimano 105 (rear) and unknown eccentric BB (front).

Chains:
KMC 3/32” (recently replaced).

Saddles and seatposts:
Madison saddles, unknown seatposts.

Headset:
Shimano 105.

my (more mechanically-minded) tandem co-rider also wonders how much cash you're after for your tandem;

we're off in-tandem to Berlin in September via the ferry from Harwich onto the R1 (http://www.euroroute-r1.de)

using a 'flex' tandem* at the mo which has been pimped out a little with wheels etc.

interested in something perhaps a little more agile (!)

ps. would much recommend to LFGSSers a trip to Amsterdam using the overnight ferry: v. flat cycle paths there and probably muchos fun-fun en route

Edmundro, please let me have the LA84 if you get the whole thing.... if you're not interested in having them, obviously ; )

it should have 1/8th" chains, 3/32 are meant to bend for gear changes, 1/8th doesn't.

The pilot to stoker chain being slack is a classic example of where the chain would waggle itself off, the rear relies entirely on the person setting chain tension correctly AND there being no highs or lows on the chain tension with sprocket and chain ring tolerances or wear.

Sorry to be brutish here, but I've seen too many really nasty accidents where peeps have had 3/32 chains on fixed.

The adjustable bottom bracket needs dealing with to sort out chain tension between pilot and stoker, its eccentric or concentric -can't recall which, to do the job. I'm sure the new owner will be dealing there.
