  • Waterloo Bridge sounthbound where it meets the roundabout, bus stopped in right hand lane as if to turn west past the station. As I rolled along the middle lane, saw a helmeted woman on her back on the road directly in front of the bus, right at the junction. Bike looking damaged, not sure how much, and about four people attending her, plod just arriving at that moment.

Hope she's not badly hurt. She was conscious at that moment I think.

  • was cycling over waterloo bridge last sunday on my road bike, on the way to a long ride... behind a bus, about 2 3 metres behind, but going fast southbound, as soon as theres a bend towards the end, a huge crater in the middle of the road, that I had to swerve and nearly nearly didnt go in, would have been a quite bad accident had i gone straight in and didnt see this till last min, rubbish surface during all this works there at the mo,
hope the woman is ok tho, just be careful out there ppl

  • tonnes of new potholes after the rain. ride safe.

+1 I only just missed this too and huge amounts of loose gravel all round it.... not nice!

  • that's a real shitter on the south side, not been there that long.
There's a fucking massive pothole on the north side of the southbound lanes too, but it's fairly central in the road. That one's a real danger.

I cycle over the bridge every night around half midnight, and there's never any bloody lights on it. The one on the south side almost gets me every night.

  • I went over that pothole, even with a 26" wheel and a fat 2.35 slick tyres, my hand hurt like hell from hitting it.

I fear for those with skinny tyres, epsecially the hippity hoppity brigade with narrow bar.

  • Has anyone reported this pothole yet?

    http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/roadusers/reportastreetfault/newfault.aspx

I had a look on fillthathole.org.uk for them the other day. There are reports for potholes on both the north and south sides of the roundabout, one dating from 2007 IIRC, so I suspect this may be one of those ones that gets repaired frequently but not well. Probably worth someone re-reporting it (I don't generally pass Waterloo so have no means of getting the needed details).

  • I've reported: see below for report.

"large pothole on north side of bridge in southbound carriageway just before first expansion joint. very dangerous to cyclists.

poor condition of road surface south side of river on southbound carriageway just after roadworks. road surface breaking up and leaving large chunks of tarmac in road posing a hazard to cyclists

whole bridge poorly lit during works, again a danger to cyclists"

  • apologies for the shite spelling/grammar in that post by the way- it's late and I'm knackered from work

  • Good work, kev83. I hope it'll be attended to soon. It's often very satisfying to see something fixed that you've reported.

  • rather impressively, the big hole has now been filled in. the streetlights are still rather random though, some nights they're on, some they're off...
still, at it's one less thing to worry about.

  • the road is now perfectly smooth, no need to turn up the brightness on my light to see the road surface anymore.
