Aero brake levers on bullhorn bars?

  • What would be the best configuration for one aero brake lever (front brake) on bullhorn bars?

Currently I have a Paul E-lever and no bar tape on a Nitto bullhorn bar. The problem is that I would like to free the space next to the stem so that I could ride with both hands close to it.

Apparently there are at least two types of aero brake levers, those with internal cable routing and those with external cable routing. What is the difference? Where does the cable come out on the levers with internal cable routing?

  • The cable runs inside the tape that you don't have.

  • Internal cable routing is for higher spec tt carbon bars - the cable get routed inside the bars for aero-dynamic purposes. The cables exit further back on the bars...(look behind the Bontrager logo in the middle of the bars)

For the nitto bars you want external cable so you can do this...

Just be sure to tape all of that up.

    Make sense?

  • i'm going to ask the daft question.
if your brake lever is at the end of the bullhorns, why would you want to ride with your hands closer to the stem? wouldn't you want to ride with your hands at the end of your bullhorns so you can reach the brake lever?

if you got the internal routed lever, you could drill your bars to route the cable through. i think. happy to be questioned on that.

  • In the past, many people have drilled their bars. At the point where the stress was the highest. I still think that drilling bars is not clever (although I did several times for my own bike and for others).

  • i was repeating received information, having never attempted it.....
but it got that point cleared up on here.
    DON'T DRILL BARS.
