• I find CDJs much easier to mix than 1200s. Bear in mind I'm still shit at both.

  • Fucks off to ableton 8.1.5beta

    fixed

sorry, can't stand the sound of Ableton crashing..

/me is still pissed off at saving my dj template in 8.1.4 before finding out it will crash at least once a day. grrr

  • Back at the entry-level end of the market,
My mum gave me some vouchers for iwantoneofthose.com
I pretty much don'twantanyofthose except this caught my eye.

    Reckon it's worth a punt?

  • correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the best use of an isolator is when you have a multi speaker system i.e. seperate bass bins and mids/tweeters elsewhere allowing you to optimise the signal between the the different amps that service them?

nope, that would be an external crossover. they are designed for tuning response between separate speaker cabs. An isolater is kind of like the eqs on a regular mixer, you use it when mixing between tracks etc. note the fancy rotary mixers don't tend to have eqs hence the isolator.

  • you can run an isolator on the total out put of a mixer (where it effectively becomes a controllable crossover) or on each channel (more like eq)

it tends to the NY house/garage boys effect of choice

    hippy

i have a cdj mkii at home unused - so you could borrow it for 3 deck mixing

the other option is to take an fx loop out from the mixer and then feed it back as the third channel for ghosting and doubling records up.

  • That's nice dear.

I now have a proper mixer to replace the Gemini. It's lovely.

I have the same mixer, very nice it is too. I use a Boss SE70 for send effects.

I liked it when I had one of those. it didn't last me very long though before I completely broke it. Loads of people I know had them and loved 'em..

(this is not a comment on the mixer, more a hint at my general cack-handedness, and the mixer was second hand..)

Sure.. when I can actually mix with two I'll let you know. :P

  • Scrratch it

  • hippo

    come round to my place

near complete collection of 80/90's detroit techno UR, planet e, transmat and a lot of it on cd

can teach you to mix, its the same judgement as needed for holding a wheel, using the pitch slider to adjust speed to hold them together

only one relies on visual cues, the other auditory and the control mechanism is slightly different

  • Perhaps I was too self-deprecating above. I know how to mix. I would just like to mix 'better'.

  • perhaps you can show me how to ride a bike

  • Have you considered cycle training?

  • Can anyone recommend a basic mixer similar to the Stanton sk1?

  • Have you considered cycle training?

why would i use a professional service when i can ask some idiot off the interwebz?

Eightball, do you want one of mine? £20 for a PMC-17A or the Gemini 626.
Depends what you're doing with it I guess.

  • Just beat mixing, cutting channels in and out etc. No scratch mixing, sounds good, can you post? Cheers

  • Where are you? I'd prefer not to post. City post offices are evil evil places.

  • Ah I'm in Scotland dude, no worries if you dont wanna post

  • The postage would probably be as much as the mixer. I paid £31 for the Vestax with postage and it'd probably be £10-15 to send it to you. It hasn't left the office yet so is untested, I'm not sure it'd be worth sending.

If you're ever in London let me know you can have the Gemini for a couple of pints or some mp3s or something (I paid £25 for it).

  • I'm pretty sure they're just discontinuing the mk6 and continuing with the mk2 and mk5.

  • I'm sure there's enough in circulation. Who buys them new anyway? Everyone I know got them from cash converters for 200 squids a pop.

  • Has anyone used traktor scratch (duo / pro) and serrato? I've used serrato but to be honest wasn't that impressed. No loop function, difficult to see track list, no record function, expensive. I've never djed vinyl and mp3's at the same time how easy is this with either system (i've got an ecler nuo 3 mixer) On paper traktor seems to offer a lot more for a lot less money http://www.djdeals.co.uk/prod-details.asp?AID=2452. Any opinions? I know i'm miles behind on the whole mp3 thing, and yes I would be using 2 x 1210's as the controller.
