Erm, why do you have to yank the cones to glue and or cold set ( erm, bend) the dust covers. Just check that you have dust covers (old school hubs) that spring into the hub, and don't touch the cones (close but not touching?) Sure you don't have new stylee seals which press fit onto the cone and either labyrith (metal) or (rubber) lip seal onto the hub?

Haven't found sheldon wildly useful on this I must admit... the hubs are large flange record pista with press in covers. They're just very loose and if sitting at a slight angle the bearings are visible.

loctite and possibly a little creative bending then.....

track riders used to sometimes ride with them out- just run the bearings on a little light oil- no good for the road of course.

Cool, thanks scherrit
Both the dust caps are a bit loose on my rear hub - even though I don't ride that bike in the wet even so I'm a little concerned as it's got loose bearings.
I've had a bit of a google and some suggest that removing the cap and bending it slightly so it holds on the axle works, some people recommend using a bit of thread locker. I'd rather not do the former as it involves removing the cones and adjustment is such a pisser - has anybody else had this prob?
