• You see, Dawn, it's really all your own fault. Welcome to 1001 wankers.

To be fair, on me, I was thinking it got a bit all "she brought it on herself", but to be fair (on myself again) I was thinking on purely numerical grounds

• Hi darlin'... having car trouble? Try this...

• Try this

• First aid gloves > Baby wipes

I never manage to think of either, which is why I'm perpetually covered in a corrosion-resistant coating of bike grease and loctite. Lucky I'm not really into the fashion thing.

• and you won't rust.

• You should get hold of those helmet cam things, I think you could do some real damage with some decent audio and a few number plates. Not sure what the coppers could actually do but I suspect they'd at least "have a word".

Plus with a few videos I think you'd have something very powerful that some of the newspapers would be interested in running a story on, especially if it's as bad as you make out.

Hey, you might even get in the Daily Mail if you're lucky, I hear they love outrage. ;-)

• bookmarked

• that so many men stop to help a damson in distress?

Plum

• This thread is love, I can't even believe it!

• notwithstanding the tension between the 'sceptics' and the anti-antifeminists - I'd always tend to the latter's side, but it's slightly hard, given the sheer damn self-consciousness of the gendering that's going on in the whole thing
• one thing that is very much always at the forefront of my mind is the apparent/inherent sexism in a lot of radical/active cycling-related things, and I'm still very much trying to think how the two can best be reconciled (feminism, that is, and cycle-ism) - but it still always seems to be slightly hindered by applying too much of any one particular framing or perspective to any event or its consequents - it's tricky.

I did also think something when I read this as well

What are you doing to make people so angry?
Honestly, nothing. I’m a good cyclist, I wear a helmet, always stop at traffic lights, indicate and I don’t take up much space on the road.

I wear a helmet, always stop at traffic lights, indicate and I don’t take up much space on the road.

as examples of how good a cyclist you're being? - It must be said I am very much of the "fuck the law, merge without indicating, sit in the middle of the lane, wear a pointy cap" kind of cyclist, but at least when motor-vehicle-drivers remonstrate with me, I have a water-off-duck's-back air of superiority to combat it with. Obviously this is easy for me, being in a priviledged position to start with - but is it something that should be aspired towards/encouraged? I think probably (obviously?) not, in general , and that there is a future way that involves us all engaging with each other in a much more human, decent and reasonable way - but how best to get from one to the other, is the question.

• that all made no sense. But the bike-building project is awesome!!
• i have some mks pedals for that bike project. whos in charge? teenslain?

• I've been around. I did the last Circle Line ride and I'm looking good for the next Bridges.

It's nice to be remembered! Cheers.

We'll have a nice quiet ride back this time.

• We'll have a nice quiet ride back this time.

Dude, it's West to East this time so at least I'll be almost home by the time it's finished. ;-)

Frankly, after being knocked off last year, I'm not as confident as I used to be. Which is paradoxical because I know that ditzy cycling is worse than being a bolshy cyclist.

• Bookmarked for the lols. 7 incidents in as many days. Does make you wonder

I'll have a rummage as well....

Stompy!

• perhaps it's the re-telling of DJ's misfortunes that has made us all (including myself) a bit sceptical of people who have continual problems with cars while cycling.

I hardly ever have any, but I'm a rather chilled out cyclist and the only major problem I have is people who pass too close to me. About once or so a month I catch up to them and give them the what-for, but for the most part I just shrug it off (which might not be the best plan, but mostly I can't be asked.

I know that a co-worker of mine has a lot more problems, but I rate that because she is very small and drivers don't notice her as well as they notice a blonde amazon on a Brompton.

I'm sorry to hear about the stolen bike, maybe setting up a donation/paypal on your blog would help you get some funds together to purchase another one?

• If enough stuff comes together I'm happy to do the build and put new cables and what not in at work.
I'll double check with work, of course.

• Blimey.....30 miles a day..... would imagine this is double the daily mileage of most on here.... including me.

Re the build. I would be happy to donate shimano sora brakes, sti's & rear mech

• Plum

don't be so sour.

• a blonde amazon on a Brompton.

You're a bookshop?

• Blimey.....30 miles a day..... would imagine this is double the daily mileage of most on here.... including me.

Double? More like 10x

• don't be so sour.

Or is it 'bitter'. They're easily confused.

• I've got an old (c.2004) Carrera Subway 1 (45cm i think) that i keep meaning to freecycle on here

It needs a new tyre and a bit of a service though (Its been sat outside unused for the last year)

But might be useful to this project or for someone else on here - Collection from South London

• About once or so a month

#thinksaboutmakingajokedecidesbestnot

but mostly I can't be asked

can't be arsed?

Anyway, I asked my girlfrien who has an incidence rate of about 100% when in central London (fine out in the burbs) and she very honestly said that she doesn't give much respect to other women cyclists as most of them are terrible cyclists... which started a long conversation, the out come of which was that despite never really talking about it most men respect other men, whilst women despite talking about girl power and stuff actually mostly dislike other women... Or maybe that's a heap of bullshit... But I've heard a lot of women saying they don't really like the company of other women, I've never heard a man saying he doesn't like the company of other men...

• I have, from memory, a pair of stock Fuji Track cranks with Crank Bros Candy pedal (working) welded to the driveside and a pair of Crank Bros eggbeaters NIB. Might be worth a punt if you feel like going clipless (they're probably the easiest clipless system to start with in town, moved on to the inevitable Time ATACs now).

• If we're freecycling for the hell of it, I could do with a 144BCD crankset and BB (English thread)... chainline kinda unimportant at this point... I actually just need it for a few weeks to help with the continuing saga that is my creaky left crank and diagnosing it (yes, I'm resorting to wanting to prove it's freaking crank by trying an entirely different one... unless someone happens to have a Clavicula left crank handy that I could try).
