    what do you suggest is compelling these people to go out of their way to find these "healers" and spend a lot money they may not have?

    Familial, cultural, religious and social norms coupled with a desperate medical situation, fear and a distrust of science.

    i do not know much about neurology, but do you think people who get suckered into his kind of thing are . .

    a) choosing to not make a rational decision when they could or . .

    b) do not have the capacity to make one?

    if it is a) i do not see why they should be pitied or stopped.

    That's a very good question, but we need to ask ourselves why someone would choose not to make a rational decision, I suspect both a) and b) are much the same thing (?) or at least closely related.
