• As the above says... The Ellis and I need a few days out of London, and were thinking of going down to Chippenham to see some rugrats and then going West, probably as far as Bath, but maybe beyond to Bristol after that.

I'm in Bristol this weekend, but if anyone has any recommendations for country B&Bs between Chippenham and Bristol, they'd be greatly appreciated.

I've read this one: https://www.lfgss.com/thread6159.html and done some of that route before, but don't have the right type of bike / tyres anymore...

    Ta

PS. A bit further West, but I'm going to plug this place too:
http://www.trillfarm.co.uk/index.php, even if there is a hint of homoeopathy about it.

  • Cycling plus had something about great cycling b and bs and there was one in bath, can remember the name though so maybe pop into a newsagent and have a leaf through.

  • Also as far as bath to Bristol route goes you can't go far wrong with the sustrans path between the two, although it's more of an 1.5 hour roll rather than a ride!

  • Cheers Ed!

I'm not a C+ user, but I've found their routes map / planner thing here:

  • Riding out of Bath along the canal is cool if you're after something nice and relaxed. the tow path is generally in good condition, and you can get onto the canal in Widcombe (pretty much in the town centre) and follow it to Bradford-on-Avon for cake and a drink.

Chippenham to Bath along the A4 isn't too bad, but there is probably a more scenic route that would be more enjoyable (yes, just looked at the map. You could go through Colerne and Batheaston along the lanes).

Can't recommend any B&Bs I'm afraid but you could always call ahead and see if they have anywhere to store bikes? There's plenty in Bath to choose from.

  • Chippenham to Bath on the A4 isn't very nice really - it is quite busy and there are quite a few HGV's... But there is a massive downhill into a place called Box that would be really fun.

And yea, sustrans path to Bristol is super easy, it's like a bike motorway. 100% flat, paved, nicely sheltered in the trees. It's great.

  • Ah Box Hill is good fixed, not too steep but keeps on going and going.

  • Cycling plus had something about great cycling b and bs and there was one in bath, can remember the name though so maybe pop into a newsagent and have a leaf through.

Has anyone got this issue of C+ that they could lend me? Just went to have a look at this months issue (Aug) and it's not in there. :(
