Also, look at the back of the cranks and see if they are pista cranks or are double rings crank converted to single. Another plus point if they are pista :)
He's already said that they're track cranks not road cranks.

Yes, they do appear to be. The backs seem to have proper recesses for the chainring bolts, and don't look like they've had any tabs shaved off.
