• anyone gone from london to amsterdam via ferry/train? seat64 recommends, any tips from anyone who's done it? easy etc?

I've done it a bunch of times. You can get combined tickets for the ferry as well as the train at both ends on stena.co.uk > rail & sail. Much cheaper than booking the three tickets separately.

You can do it with your bike intact or packed up in a bag. If you ride on then you have to go with the cars and trucks, which is fun but slow to get off once you reach Hook of Holland. Better to pack up your bike and carry it on. There's a locked baggage room once you're on board.

There are two sailings daily, one by day, one by night. The day one is cheaper because at night it is compulsory to book a cabin. The day train leaves liverpool street at 6:00am to get to Harwich for something like a 9:30am sailing.

At the far end take the train to Rotterdam and then change to Amsterdam, platforms 8 or 9.

That's all I can think of. Should be about 50/60EU for the day sailing.

......and back on topic, B and I are hitting up Berlin from this Monday 'til the following Monday. Can't wait!
