  • Cycling home from work last night, coming from Mornington Crescent and turning right onto Camden Road by the worlds end pub, a car takes me out from behind and carries on speeding down Kentish Town Road leaving me lying in the middle of the road shouting obscenities and wondering what the fuck just happened.
Obviously, with it being super busy round there, a crowd had emerged around me before I even knew what was going on. It's nice to know that there's still tons of good natured people out there. One of them was a nurse and was telling me not to move, but I was well aware I was lying in the middle of a busy intersection, so insisted on getting myself up and to the side of the road. My injuries are fairly superficial; just cuts and grazes really, nothing major.
An ambulance and police car were there in minutes, and while being checked over in the ambulance, a policeman informed me that a cyclist had chased the driver and caught him and was holding him there! Amazing! If anyone hears who this could have been I'd love to shake his hand and say, "jolly well done, sir". The driver did take off again, but was caught by the police. WAC!! I'll find out later today whether or not he was insured etc.
Could've been a lot worse, and considering I was hit by a car I got off pretty lightly. But as I said, it's great to know that in such a situation people are more than willing to offer whatever help they can. Amen to that!

  • a policeman informed me that a cyclist had chased the driver and caught him and was holding him there! Amazing!

Absolute hero. Hope things heal up just fine and the driver gets dealt with. Nice to see people caring too, beats lying in the road bleeding by yourself

    /bitter accident experience

  • Sounds like you got off lightly, heal up pal.

  • He will be an insured piss/crack head probably

  • Holy shit ! Glad you are okay!

  • Yeah I'm fine really, but I've got some nasty gravel rash on my back, which seems to be making everything I do more troublesome. Ah well!

  • Good to hear that you are walking wounded rather than anything worse.

Also great to hear of the velo-vigilante assistance.

  • Glad to hear that the injuries were minimal. GWS

  • That sounds like a pretty remarkable crash outcome. Glad you weren't hurt worse! Well done to the other cyclist.

  • depressing and exhilarating stuff.

Depressing about the hit and run, and then a further attempt to get away when stopped by cyclist......seriously WAC hope they throw the book at him.

exhilarating about the people who helped and the superhero cyclist....faith is restored.

Heal up fella and hope the bike is ok. he may not be insured but make sure you go to docs to get checked out etc and valuation of any damage to the bike so that can be taken in to count in relation to his charges and any insurance/compensation.

  • He will be an insured piss/crack head probably

^ i think that should read uninsured.

well done to the cyclist and police.

and good news that you are not seriously injured.

    thanks for posting this.

i wonder what the culprit will be charged with.

attempted murder or being a naughty boy ?

in my view the car manufacturer should be held responsible as well.

  • Once I find out more details I'll post them up.
The bike seems ok miraculously, which is lucky seeing as I was riding my favorite one. And although the rear wheel took a major whack and has gouges in it, in still runs perfectly true! Testament either to my wheel building skills or just the strength of a B43?!

  • Wow, glad you're not seriously injured. WAC indeed. Amazing that he was caught.

This morning I was coming up mornington crescent and cut up by a tow truck lorry driver... on a mobile!!! I told him to get off and he ignored me, and there was a cop pulled over on the side of the road texting on his mobile. I went up to him and said that lorry driver's on a mobile and almost took me out. He said okay and continued texting... didn't give a shit.

  • Nasty business, but good to hear that you're not badly damaged.
Great community spirit from the other cyclist too.

  • contact oliver jeffcott on here

he has been great as a solicitor dealing with a case where a driver hit me from behind whilst i was stupidly waiting at a red light

  • econodog

take note of the pc's number

quote it to him and then ask if he wishes to take no further action

  • shit man. lucky it wasn't last week or would've been a major PITA. heal up.

  • WAC!

Glad you on the bike are OK(ish)

  • I like how a cyclist manage to hold the driver in a car. Epic. Hero indeed.

Keep us posted on what happens matey, glad you're ok.

  • Agree with contacting Oliver Jeffcott. Really nice guy and has helped me after I was hit by a car. Hope you take the low life scum to the cleaners!! Also hope you heal up ok.

  • Thank goodness you're OK! Brilliant story, there should be more like this where people are helping each other out in such unforseen circumstances, and police are doing their job.

The way it should always be I guess, but still, hope ur grazes etc heal up and hero cyclist gets the kudos he deserves :)
