Raleigh front brake

I have a raleigh frame and 27" wheels, Im replacing the centre pull brakes that were orginally on the bike with a side pull front brake (its fixed gear now at back).

anyone know what size front brake I should be buying? I've no idea how you go about measuring them up and im sure this is simples to someone.

I have a 78 Raleigh and I've fitted a Tektro R536,I've measured the drop to be 57mm

appreciate the link landslide I wondered how the drop was calculated as 10mm either way is a massive difference.
