  • Hello poloists

Can ex/current owners please share their opinions of the bike for polo? I know that it is popular for polo, although having not met anyone with one for long enough to talk about it I felt i needed to know more before i get close to buying a frame.

    Thank you

  • just buy it, there are no other options for under £150.

I have an XL for sale in a week.

It's a great frame, not polo specific, but as close as you will get without spending more than £400.

  • I bought one around two months ago to get back into polo and it's been the frame of my dreams. I started with Onza Tuf Guy forks which were about £20 on eBay and work ok with 700c wheels (unless you want V–Brake mounts) but recently switched to standard Pompino forks. I built the whole bike with used or dirt cheap parts and it still feels great.

The only thing I would say is the chainring runs incredibly close to the chainstay, I'm fairly certain I'm running the incorrect bottom bracket but I'm also running a 33t chainring and there's probably a 1.5mm gap. Also, running 700x35c tyres doesn't seem to be a problem as far as clearances.

    Generally awesome. Singlespeed + Rear V–Brake = Fuckin A

  • If you just want someone to TELL you what bike you should get, then go get a pompino as they're great things. otherwise you've got to figure out what YOU want from a polo bike because your post is really quite vague.

  • I think they are pants, but then I think all on one items are pants because its run by some one who owes me money

i agree on one as a company are wankers, but their frames are unbelievable value.

its all about hype, their products cost hardly anything to produce.

any new thoughts not covered yet?

  • there more than 20 pomps been use for polo... what more thoughtsdo you want?

  • Short of libel - what's so wrong with On-One as a company?

I work in an independent bike shop, and they're one of many online price-shaggers, which severely affects companies like ours, but is that what people are referring to?

  • Dan, I dont think On-one are price shaggers, they get made Bikes in taiwan and they sell them exactly like that, probably Genesis get the frames in the same factory, but decide to charge for the double. On0one are not shaggers, Genesis are thief.

A lot of people here in this forum as On-one product and no one of them has as a bad experience, so well done for On-one if they can sell bikes at that price and still making a living, and at the same time keeping the costomers happy.

  • ...keeping the costomers happy.

    Their employees on t'other hand...

  • do you know any Chirs? speak up

  • I'm sure he will find his way here but craignasty had very little to say about planet x/ on one except bad things

  • See post #5.

  • Chris knows me and I'll happily echo all of Craig's comments and more.

  • ...they're one of many online price-shaggers, which severely affects companies like ours...

Well, they do actually have an online eBay shop called Priceshaggers...

I'm quite keen to hear why they're such a bad company. I bought my Pompino based purely on feedback from this forum and over six months later I'm still just as happy with it. I've tweaked the setup slightly, replaced bits and pieces here and there but now it's just the way I like it. At the BFF, the place was full of them... which is pretty good considering it's a bike that's not even designed for polo. In short, I love my Pompino and every experience I've had dealing with Planet X / On One has been a positive one.

  • I'll reply when I get home...

I say they're price shaggers because, like Merlin et al, they import Shimano, Rock Shox etc at 'manufacturers' prices (way below independent shops can access), and sell them individually. We can't buy the stuff through legitimate import channels for the price they sell them for! When you're paying 50% less than RRP for a derailleur, or chain or shifters or whatever, it's because it's grey import.

On-One is a different model to conventional bike manufacturers. They do something very different, which is great for people who know what they're buying and can repair it. But they're not sold through shops, so the reason they're so much cheaper is mostly the retailer's margin.

  • Lots of shops do it, to call on one out on it is a bit shit IMO.

  • I disagree - if that's what they do, they have to stand by it.

Ultimately, it's fair game for people who have tools and know how to use them, or people who don't mind paying a mechanic to install stuff. It's less good for people who buy incompatible or unsuitable things because it's '57% off RRP'.

  • Don't get me wrong, I own a Pompino - think they're great frames. I'm sure their other frames are too.

  • How do you know they are grey trading? Because they buy through OE channels? Don't you think that is up to the distributors or the manufacturers to control? Your small shop would take those kind of discounts if they could get them. So would anyone.
