  • Was that at the cafe next to Route Canale, Cazakstan?

It would be interesting to hear whether they were locked just out of sight, too.

Terrible luck by the sound of it!

  • Yeah I think that's the one they asked the bloke in the cafe where was best to lock them, found a "secure" place and had a coffee, then they were gone..

It's just so annoying as I'd just built up the confidence to cycle to work!

  • Hi guys,

the flat bar (Amoeba), headset (Cane Creek), stem (Amoeba) of my bike got stolen last night in Cambridge, but maybe it pops up somewhere in London.

At least the Kryptonite mini did its job...but how I am supposed to prevent the bar from being stolen?

  • @cazakstan

what happened to the locks? what were the bikes locked to?

  • They were locked to a tall lapost with signs on it, would have been impossible to lift them off, one lock through post and frames, other through the wheels, my partner locked them and knows how to be secure about it. There were no signs of the locks so they must have cut through them and taken them with them.. so angry.

  • Was this behind the cafe on De Beauvoir Crescent?

  • Yes, just asked my partner it was the Towpath cafe.

  • This is my first post and its a tale of pain and suffering (but hopefully some silver lining somewhere). A few weeks back I spent £XXX fitting an ultgra 6700 groupset and ultegra back wheel to my Trek Equinox. Stolen from Euston Station first day after completion.
Wanted to share my loss and (well this is a sort of silver lining) have decided to build myself a fixed gear to ease me through the greiving.
Found this site when I decided my corse of action and now I don't feel so alone (another bit of silver lining).

  • codesheep, did you ask for access to the CCTV that covers Euston Station? I'm sure its completely covered, and the police (British Transport?) can liaise with the Met better if they have photographic evidence of the crime.

Don't know how long your bike had been locked up, but mainline stations are a hotspot for professional thieves, and not just the normal amateurs. Do consider your locking arrangements, as the thieves normally go for the bikes that look good, but are easier to get through to. There is a thread about locks on here, that might help at some stage in the future.

  • I went to the police officer near the double decker rack when I got back from my day of toil and realsied it wasn't there. The upshot is that the cctv footage showed what happened and when but the camera's are rubbish quality and so no chance of iding the guy .Police said it was a professional (he comes in on another bike and parks it next to the bike he wants to steal).
I'll check up on the locks thread.

  • so about 3 weeks ago i biked past this nice pink fixie (very poorly locked up) everyday on my way to work, on my way back home one day and i see it outside a pub not locked up and further down the road the lock, snipped left on the road. i took the bike from outside the pub and took it to the police staion. i asked some other fixed riders around cambridge if they recognised it ect.. they didn't. so after 28 days i can claim this bike. if i eventually do claim it would it be right of me to sell the frame or use the parts..? im feeling very confused about it.. thanks..

  • You've been honest and reported it to the police. If the person who had their bike taken, didn't report it, then its not your fault.

Use the parts after 28 days, as you have followed the law to the letter.

Noted though that you only mentioned this after 3 weeks. I would have waited 27 days. ;)
You did report it, so you're home free. Enjoy the rest of your days free of bicycle ownership guilt.

Did you leave a note in the spot from where it seems to have been stolen (e.g., near the snipped lock)?

  • ahh no, but if that was my bike i would of gone straight to police station.

  • There is a high degree of under-reporting of theft. Many people have little confidence in the police to take action and don't realise that it's proper reporting of crime that gives the police evidence to devote more resources to a problem (as they have done recently on bike theft, with a dedicated unit being set up, but we can always do more to raise the problem to prominence).

  • I found this in the park this morning whilst walking the dog. It's clearly been abused a bit(wheels are out of true) and it's not a fancy build, but I don't believe it's been abandoned by its owner. I found it in Hammersmith, but clearly that doesn't mean it's from around here.

If it belonged to anyone on here, or anyone recognises it, drop me a PM or post below. Otherwise I'll drop it off with the police within a day or two when my wife gets fed up of it sitting in the garden...

  • dibs on the saddle if you split. x

  • no foot retention, poor bar tape

    oops wrong thread

  • spotted what looked to be a stolen bike heading north east around Hackney Downs about 7pm this evening... apologies if I'm casting aspersions but it looked way small for the rider who was struggling with the concept of straps and didn't really suit the bike...

...anyway lemon/custard yellow frame (no decals), coppi chrome fork, black sugino cranks, black deep section rear rim with a shallow front rim.

if you're missing it, I suspect it's in the shacklewell area.

  • from outside the haggerston (fail, I know), brown (aka crimson) surly steamroller, black charge dish rear wheel, silver regular rim front wheel with ambrosio hub. charge riser bars, shitty bontrager stem, black grips. SNAKESKIN look black and white saddle that I've had for years, snakeskin wearing off. crank bros eggbeaters, wet black ritchey seat post. black vittoria randonneur tyres, both worn, esp back. tracko sticker on front right of top tube.was locked with krypto d lock.
Now I can't get to work. Or live. I want to die.
    Any info/sightings appreciated.

  • reported to cops, but kinda feel what's the point? been back to scene of crime, no parts of lock or anything. motherfuckers.

any sightings, please gimme a call: 07940 574009

  • I hate to ask, but which Krypto D lock was it, so others can be forewarned?

  • mini D. the fuckers can break anything tho. its just the rudeness of theft that pisses me off. and the fact it was the first time I ever actually spent ages buying the bike I really wanted. cunts. I think its the 6th bike I've had stolen in my life. it doesn't get any easier. blummin London.

  • This one? ^^^^^^

    Or the Fagh Mini?
