yeah i have heard of that. blue quinns uncle did that on his race bike when the system went from imperial to metric. he said it saved him bundles on tyres and repairs.
the other system is for a clincher rim to be bonded to the tubeless rim and then you use 27 inch tyres. the only problm with that is that you need three rims as you need to cut a section out and weld it in. looks good though almost like a deep vee or deep atlanta. the shim route is the better one though. hope that helps.
