i now see your point about drops. if you're in london its worth going to Tokyo Fixed to see whether the basket can be mounted away from the drops. if you have narrow track drops I can see how this is a problem. the arms that attach the Wald basket on my bike can be adjusted away from the bars rather than down. see pic below.
