Yeah, of course, naturally- me too. But in my experience the quality of rented housing available in Edin shits all over what you can get in London, and is a fair amount cheaper. Combine that with the lack of travel costs (you can walk across the city in about 45 minutes and obviously cycle it in much less) and the fact that London was recently voted most expensive city in the world to dine out (can't remember the source for this so it might be wrong though...) and I would rather live here than in London. But- I personally have found wages to be higher in London than elsewhere, and the work is more exciting (in engineering). So the higher salary is justified by the increased living costs and the work can be more interesting which is just a bonus.
I have no idea outside of my industry though!
