Girls do polo?

  • I've never started a thread - but I couldn't find one that this question would fit into, so here goes...

I was thinking about giving polo a try, looks like fun, and I see there's one in South London.

I can't tell from the usernames in the polo sub-forum, is it all guys or do any girls here play? Anyone ever been, or harbouring a secret desire to go?

  • There a good few polo girls (especially down south) but we need more!!!

  • You mean my beginners polo thread?

You're in luck, I'm female, Sassy comes, she's female and one other so far.
Hops plays at Souths polo a lot and her team Los Conos are all female. Plus Tanya goes Wests, and a couple North.
    Lots of us!
    Come to beginners.

  • Brilliant, cheers. I'll check out that thread - I wondered if I was posting in the right place/should have been posting in the polo forum. I don't mind playing with guys but it's always nice to not be the only girl :)

Oh and I live in Camberwell - even better!

    Thanks

  • Out of curiosity are any of you ladies based in Cambridge?
I'm moving there in just over 2 weeks and am really curious about polo - there seems to be quite a bit going on but I wouldn't want to be the only girl...

  • Not sure whether there are girls playing in cambridge but don't let it put you off if there aren't. When I started polo in manc I was one of the only girls playing regularly and still really enjoyed it. The great thing about polo is things like strength and speed on the road really don't make a difference to how good you are at it. Not saying you can't get macho posing at polo, but it's hard to be macho when you're running a spinny gear on a beater bike and riding in tiny circles waving a mallet with a yellow drainpipe stuck on the end.

  • Ha ha! Oh it sounds like so much fun....
I think when I've moved to Cambridge I'll enquire on the Cambridge polo thread and see what response I get... They can't be that scary really can they?...

  • @ Jess, there's no girls playing regularly in Cambridge but me and my team mate (both female) spent the day with them up there playing throw ins and they're really friendly.
Check the cambridge thread or pm types/ crack fox and they'll welcome you I'm sure, they need more players.

  • Yeah I've been stalking the Cambridge polo thread for a while... They all sound nice but pretty hardcore, and I'm worried I'll be really terrible, but I suppose I'll pick it up... I'll post on their thread when I've moved. Thanks for support, its lovely having a ladies subsection :-) x

  • Beginners session at Quorn Road in Camberwell this evening, probably 50% or so female. All welcome. Bring yourself and a bike. Mallets provided.
