all the headset and cranks etc is super masked to all hell, The cranks and headset would stuck pretty tight to the extent that I was worried about removing them with anymore force.

No such thing as too tight, get bigger tools.

No such thing as too many coats, if you want it to last and look deep and lustrous I'd say 6-8 minimum...

Its at 2 primer and 4 coats of colour now and looking pretty much solid, montana black seems to be really nice paint though, going to smooth it out with some 1000 wet and dry and then hit it with and couple of coats tomorrow.
This is my first bike build and a pretty steep learning curve, but im enjoying it.

Tomasito, I liked the smoothed out bare metal too.
Hopefully it looks good when its finished, it'll be chrome old school style wheels, chrome drop bars to match the crank and black saddle and handlebar tape.
cheapest place that powdercoats is 120 euro in dublin + 100 miles travel, so its not like I have the option of dandering to armourtex, its hardly the swankiest frame either.

Where abouts are you mate? In Ireland? I'm dropping my frame out to Tallaght Powdercoating this week...

yes, up in belfast. so taking a frame to dublin is a bit of a trek. I'd rather buy a really nice frame than spend £150 between travel and powdercoating.
The frame was made by raleigh dublin in 79.
the colour looks much brighter above than it is

Baby Blue™*
Two coats of primer, now just on first coat.
This montana black is some job, I dunno if its going to need a second tin.
No, im not spraying inside it just started to mizzle a little bit so I brought it inside.
Looks more bluey green than it does in pic.
