    It'll be fine. Brooks don't recommend anything other than proofide. Yet it's made of mostly tallow (pig fat) and beeswax.

    BTW beeswax is good idea for the top once you've softened it up a bit, ask your local shoemender nicely to buff some in with one of their big machines with spinning cloths. No reason why it should cost more than polishing a pair of shoes.
