• Dear All,

Gazelle Champion Mondial's are very light framesets with Reynolds 531 tubing.

Ive stripped it clean of unneccessary and complicated mechanical instruments and re-installed simple and efficient fixed gear transmission for riding in London and beyond. The rear wheel, hand-built by Billy at Brixton Cycles was bought last week and rode it to Oxford on a test run yesterday to make sure he'd done a good job, I confirm its a very very nice wheel.

Frame: Gazelle Champion Mondial AB Frame Reynolds 531 Tubing (its been dated as an early 80's model - w/ Campagnolo Drop-Outs - Seat Tube 56cm - Top Tube 55cm. The frame has a few rust speckles.
    Seat Post: Campagnolo 27.2mm
Saddle: Brooks B17 Std Honey Mustard - Ridden Once
    Stem: 3TTT
    Drop Bars: 3TTT
Drop Grips: Some German Professional Yellow Leather
    Headset: Campagnolo
Front Brake: Campagnolo Gran Sport - w/ Campagnolo Brake Pads
Brake Lever: Black 2 Finger Mechanism - (Brixton Cycles)
Crankset: Campagnolo Gran Sport 170mm w/ 46t Chainring
Pedals: MKS Touring Pedals (Slight bend in right pedal)
Tyres: 2 x Panasonic Panaracer Pasela Tourguard Kevlar Tyres 700x23c - Mint Condition
Rear Wheel: Handbuilt by Billy at Brixton Cycles - DT Swiss RR 1.1 Rim with DB Spokes, 36 Soke 3 cross pattern and GoldTec Rear Hub. 100 Miles Test Roll to Oxford yesterday, and you'll be very happy with it, glad as I paid (180GBP to get it built)
**Flip Flop Hub **- Surly 16t Track Cog w/ Andel Lock Ringn and Shimano 16t Freewheel
Front Wheel: Mavic Module E-2 Rim with a Campagnolo Hub and Double Butted 36 Spoke Three Cross Pattern.

Gazelle's are very light bicycles this setup weighs approx 9kg - its running a 45-16 Gearing which I find useful in London. Its been a lot of fun building and its a nice ride.

  • Still got any of the "mechanical instruments" it came with? What were they? Bar angle makes it look sad it's now without.

  • simpson79 - the bars have never been happier

  • Im installing a Shimano Single Speed 16t FreeWheel on the Goldtec Hub. Best of both worlds

    Price is now 425GBP

  • How tall are you?

  • .

  • Think I preferred it before

shame to have slayed a near original and complete example but I guess it's all horses for courses.

  • ah! indeed, the one with the complete Gran Sport gruppo... so nice

  • Like to see the bike in both conversions, great looks. But prefer the original one. It feels great to ride. Next time i make a fixie myself maybe.

  • alisha .... I am 5ft 10 inches

  • Think I preferred it before

    What Tel Said...

  • there is a better equipped rarer and better quality gazelle track bike selling for less than than you are asking for this conversion
just saying the price might be a bit toppy

and I just bought a fully campy gruppoed anniversary Special AA incl. shipping for the same price

  • Travesty

  • quite a charming little machine.....would be interested at a slightly reduced price.........

  • sorry no PM at the mo, in 'the nursery'

  • the honey mustard b17 and the yellow grip tape was a gamble.... I like it.... considering to go something more conservative for forumungers like a black b17 and black grip tape. it wouldnt be so offensive.

for the record everyone: the price is £400 as a fixed gear, or i can add a Shimano Single Speed Free-Wheel for 20... so £420 as a flip=flop.

the handbuilt rearwheel runs an absolute dream - it cost 180 pounds to be built up and its a very nice roll.

Would people prefer the Black Saddle Black Grip variation?

  • too much money.

  • WAY too much money.

  • 3was thinking the brooks saddle paired with brooks honey mustard leather grip, flip flop essential for me. would be more comfortable with around £340-50 pricing....

  • a few offers under consideration...

  • for someone who wants a converted road bike with reliable mostly serviced and cleaned parts this is about right price wise.?
you buy a bike from rih, peter etc it needs stripping down and sorting out..new saddle, bartape and cables..thats alright if youve got a few evenings, some spares and the tools handy, but if you dont you can top an extra hundred quid on consumables etc..this way you get what you want straight away.
looks nice with gears-looks nice converted.

  • cheers Edmund .... new components added - and not to mention a top of the range handbuilt Rear Wheel - spanking new - test ridden to Oxford - DT Swiss Made Rear Rim, Double Butted Spokes, Goldtec Hub, Surly Fixed Cog all brand new by Billy The Kid at Brixton Cycles...at a considerable cost folks.

Riding fixed.... good investment in wheel technology is essential for enjoyment ;)
