  • That looks like a Surly Fixxer (converts freewheel to fixed). Maybe they had a fine 'washer' between it and the wheel?

  • Yeah - the hed3 track is like hippy said a bolt on Fixxer.. It sounds like it needs tighting, I've heard of them separating on the street after hard abuse. I would check all the axle bolts, spaces etc. It shouldn't have any play if its all tight. Also check your chain-line.. Its a lot but it will save your wheel in the long run.

  • cheers guys.
    appreciate the help on this.
i'm gonna take it back to the shop and have a word with the mechanic.
definitely lost a spacer of some sort ..albeit a wafer thin one.

chainline is bang on this bike, everything is relatively new, like i mentioned, its only been ridden for about 30 miles.

  • 2009 model, cosmetically perfect, and it's perfectly true.

  • are you trying to sell this item?
or see how much we think it's worth?

  • I am buying. :)

  • 100 squids

  • I am buying. :)

    from where?

  • 650 or 700?

  • from where?

    Local guy.

    650 or 700?

    700C

  • ...and it's perfectly true.

None of them are perfectly true, due to the way they are manufactured.
Regarding value, newness = +, tub = - . Seen pairs of tubs (f+road rear) go on tri forums for about 490, can't remember how old they were though.
Don't take it for a test ride, you'll hear the nice whooshing noise and then you'll have to buy it.

  • Cool, thanks. I've only seen them go for 650-750 pounds, 2008/2009 edition. Older sets are found for 400-500. I don't have much use for a freewheel/cassette back, though. :-)

But, what'd you say? I was thinking in the lines of 250~ pounds -- fair?

I do, but tubs scare me :(

I bought my well worn front HED3 clincher for a smidge over £250, but that's in London's famous London with eager buyers queuing up all over the place. My guess is you'd probably be looking at more. Plus the tubs have no machined braking surface spoiling the lines and look sexy as. That must come at a premium.

(But I genuinely don't have a clue what I'm talking about.)

  • HED 3's have braking surfaces whether they're tubs or not, unless .. the very early Specialised/HED ones didn't. My x 2 pairs have brake surfaces and they polish up a treat.

HED do a wheel repair service if needed......although they can't perform miracles....

  • Does anyone have a valve adapter for an hed3. Due to the valve being recessed into the wheel I need a attachment to be able to use a regular pump with it. I've lost my one and no one seems to stock them.

  • I believe I have one spare in my tool box

Am based in Kew, I think you are put east. Remind me via email tomorrow to check.

  • Threw mine away (brass coloured metal thing that came with the HED3), you can get a regular pump onto the valve without the adaptor, there is plenty of room.

  • [EDIT]

    mine looked like this . . .

  • You can also smoke crack with it.

    Just saying.

  • pictures or you're guffing

  • can a hed 3 clincher rear be converted to a track version so to run as a fixed version without alot of hassle is it only a surly fixer that is needed to do this
