  • basically ive tried so many places in my local vacinity (police, bike shops, key cutters, hardware stores) and none of them can scribe 6 sodding letters into my frame.

i need my postcode on my frame for my insurance to be valid..

    any help much appreciated

  • the police used to stamp it into the frame, not scribe or etch

  • what about writing it in UV pens?

  • Jewelry shop ?
A place that sells sports trophies (medals, cups) ?
People who encrave licence plate numbers in car windscreens ?

  • Anyone with a Dremel?

  • yeah ive tried the police but to no avail.. will have to try a jewellery shop

  • skully chops has got stamps, maybe he could do it for a small fee?

  • is that just "skully" on this forum? [/noob]

  • I'm a jeweller can't say I've ever been asked for it, probably could do components but not a frame no way of getting it clamped in the machines we use !

  • ahh fair enough.. i received a pm from a guy on here i think he might be able to sort me out

  • what insurance company is insisting on this? Would be good to know so they can be avoided as this sounds like a right faff.

  • What happens when you move house? Serious question - which I would be putting to aforementioned insurance company.

Or if you decide to sell?

  • just buy an engraver and do it yourself.

  • no its an esb and was hand welded by ted.. but there is no serial code on it, so therefore they just need something down in their books

if i sell it the serial code on the bottom bracket is my post code, aswell as if i move house, its still just a serial code.. i could have written ilovepenis as the serial code but she suggested post code haha

  • what if you move house?
    edit-I didn't read proper.

Give me a fiver and ill scratch it in with a knife.

  • yeah ive tried the police but to no avail.. will have to try a jewellery shop

Try Tiffany & Co on Old Bond Street. They bend over backwards for their customers.

  • Station Cycles in cambridge stamp numbers/letters onto frames...doesnt look too neat though

  • hahah yeah ill wheel my bike into tiffanys.. and cambridge is a bit far from ascot :(

  • These folk might do it http://www.modelshop.co.uk/ or will sell you the tools for sure. If you want it done so its nice and neat you might struggle. From experience, doing it by hand is trickier than you might think (engraver or hard stamps), due to the hard material and round surface. You can hammer letters with a centre punch using the dots to form the shapes. This is quite effective and tidy.

  • I bought a Dremmel-type kit for £15 in Focus, probably even cheaper now...

  • doesnt matter how neat it is tbh

  • dremel?

You can use a stencil with letters...

  • The best bet is to buy one of those plastic rulers with an alphabet cutout.

  • the dremel would just cut through the stencil as well. I say just draw it on then dremel over the lines.
