As someone who has had it happen to them (dibsing, and then being told later, after thinking I'd "won" the item, it was going to someone else), I think it's pretty bad form from both parties. Sellers should post stuff at the price they're willing to sell it for.
At the very least, were it to happen, it would be nice if the seller would pass on the price to the person who dibsed to let them match it.
Still think if you want an auction, go to ebay.
