To be honest it sounds like you've purchased a lemon. A new axle is gonna cost you 20quid and then you've got to find the exact nuts to hold the bearing etc. Best bet if you want to keep the hub is to buy a used one and take the required bits out of it. If you are getting new spokes you might as well use any new hub of your choice.
