Chain not sitting on sprocket

Posted on
  • Good Afternoon guys,

    I've got everything done, almost.

Attached my sprocket last night but my chain doesn't want to sit on it - literally. The width is fine for both the chainring and sprocket. But the pitch of the new sprocket is too close together for the chain to wrap around?

So im thining half link chain until I go into LBW and the chap reckons to move the wheel further back into the drop-outs, would this work, and didnt recommnend using a hlaf link KMC?

    Answers greatfully recieved.

  • Chain wear, time for a new chain?

  • Do you have a 3/32" chain and a 1/8" sprocket?

  • Do you have a 3/32" chain and a 1/8" sprocket?

I think that must do, as there should be no other reason why the chain won't wrap around the sprocket....

  • Do you have a 3/32" chain and a 1/8" sprocket?

    this is the answer

  • Thanks guys, I've give this a go...

  • No problem. Just for reference: a 1/8" chain will sit on a 3/32" sprocket/chainring (but might be a little more noisy than both the same size), but a 3/32" chain will not sit on a 1/8" sprocket/chainring.

if you are using the terms correctly your chain is worn.

pitch is the distance between the pins of the chain. and it increases with wear until the chain no longer meshes with the teeth.
