Chain not sitting on sprocket

The width is fine for both the chainring and sprocket. But the pitch of the new sprocket is too close together for the chain to wrap around?

if you are using the terms correctly your chain is worn.

pitch is the distance between the pins of the chain. and it increases with wear until the chain no longer meshes with the teeth.
