  • I'm one of those weird people that haven't managed to break a single bone.
would you like some help? :)

  • When the cat's away ... :)

...ask Clive if he knows anything about it

  • When the cat's away ... :)

will's courier bag doesn't get pissed on ;p)

  • only joking-i did full thickness tear on super-spinatus and ultra -spinatus tendons which looks similar to the injury pictured above.stupidly rode before fully healed ,fell off and tore off on of them again.Luckily my arm is weaker but still usable(if you know what I mean ;).)and yes you can call me wanker if you so wish

  • Hopefully he's about to have a criminal record.

Hopefully he's already got a criminal record. If he's got violent previous' he could get a worthwhile sentence.

  • Glad it's not broken Sky...

    White Van... England football kit...

did he have a fishing rod and a geordie accent..?

  • David I'm saddened and enraged to hear this, If I can help, please let me know...

  • Those of us riding in primary position are encountering a lot of abuse from drivers who do not understand that we have a right to position ourselves safely.

Festus (Multigrooves), myself and David (skydancer) have all been physically attacked simply for our road positioning.

Me too, back in March someone threw a 3/4 full bottle of Yazoo (chocolate) at my head whilst they overtook me. They had beeped me a few metres back and I hadn't moved over as there were parked cars all the way along. Once I got to a wider bit (30 metres along) I moved across and they overtook and did that. I chased them down the street and screamed at them to stop, which of course they didn't. NOBODY stopped to ask if I was OK when I clearly was NOT.
The cops were suitably concerned and based on the description and number plate they made some calls to the driver. However I thought it was probably the passenger that threw it and the driver was being totally obstructive and wouldn't say who it was, and in fact denied knowing anything about the incident. The polie tried to get DNA from the bottle but inthe absence of a person to link it to it would have been no use. I dont know what happened really in the end but had it all come together they would have gone for a conviction for Actual Bodily Harm (ABH) as the bottle made contact with my head.

Maybe we should be keeping a track of these types of incident where drivers are abusing cyclists for riding in the primary position? Though sometimes I think its nothing to do with that. Its more simply thuggish aggression and bullying by cretins who have been given the idea by advertising that their car gives them some sort of status and freedom to use the city streets like a playground. Its just a sport to pick on, abuse and threaten people who you perceive as being poorer, less cool or weaker than you. No less worrying though of course.

  • a thread dedicated to posting such incident perhaps?
Hope robbo (cycle task force) picks this up ... http://www.lfgss.com/thread46597.html

  • I think my little finger on my right hand is fractured, walloped it a couple weeks back and it's still a little sore/numb with a hard bump under the skin where I hit it....

  • Fingers take forever. Have a lot of finger injuries from sparring. Even sprains take up to a year to heal properly. Often not much you can do about it, even when it's broken.
My dad however tripped when playing tennis, and ended up falling on his little finger which was 90 degrees off afterwards. Foolishly he straightened it himself, taped it and finished the match (loosing). I hospital they then had to shoot a wire down his finger through all the bones to hold together. Yuk!

  • I guess the injuries could have been a lot worse; as long as this doesn't turn in to the new Clive's Arse thread.

    Did clive post pictures?....i'll check

here's my knees taken 5 minutes ago

  • ouch!

  • Wowzer, no kneecap on your left leg !!! Owch

your a very hairy, manly man...

the passenger (White baldheaded late 20s) jumped from the van, grabbed my hair and tried to push my head into the lampost )

    Ahh!! That's why

  • I have avascular necrosis of my left hip joint. It's basically grinding away the whole time. I'm just gonna ride on it until it's gets so bad they have to give me a new hip.

  • Is there permanent rotator cuff damage then?

Well, permanently I have a distinct lump because of my shoulder is now an inch or so from my clavical, making my right arm a bit longer than the other. I've got full rotational movement, but I do occassionally get a little discomfort sometimes, a little sharp pain and some acheyness. Sleeping on my right side can sometimes cause an uncomfortable morning for a little while, I try not to sleep on it but I just tend to go on that side sometimes in my sleep. I've been advised to not carry anything too heavy for a while, but try and do excercises often to build up some muscle around that area to give more support. I reckon in about another 3-6 months I shouldn't feel any discomfort anymore. My strength has decreased a little but not to worry, I'll soon build that up again.

Since the accident I feel so unfit, lost a bit of muscle mass, ended up putting on weight but thankfully went back down again due to eating good. I've barely cycled and it's a bit depressing. Some family and my Lady are adimant that I get a helmet if I ever want to cycle again. Which I find a bit annoying but understandable of course. But I try and tell them that by study, drivers go past closer to cyclists because of helmets, and also pretty much majority of fatalities and serious injuries are to do with reckless and thoughtless cycling, such as going on the inside of HGV. Obviously if you fall off yer bike and land on yer head could equal to something bad... I rarely see anyone with helmets on so maybe by seeing that you subconciously don't think or want to wear a helmet.

What's everyones thoughts on wearing a helmet? Personally I would love to roll around with one of these on my head. Though not much padding you'd crack your skull if anything and turn your brain to mush. Aha. (not something to really laugh about is it?)

  • Sounds horrific, and as observed above not uncommon. I'm sure you've already done it, but if you've not already given a full statement to Police write down everything you can remember today about the incidient, including a little map, also worth just start keeping one-line records of all the time/agro involved should this, with luck, go further. Heal up soon, and fingers crossed they find and prosecute successfully, keep us in touch.

Good advice Bagheera. Police have been good (apart from not managing to get to the scene initially) have taken a full statement and said the'll contact the many witnesses and check out the cctv. Will keep a record of all time/agro as you suggest.

  • My flatmate has just gone out on his bike.

    Yes, fruitbat.

    Idiot.

  • To be fair tim's pretty experienced at riding broken doesn't he?

  • Yeah completely. Arm was hannging on by the muscle and not the ligaments.
    Really hurt.

When it happened, three drunk guys crossed the road to see if I was alright. Nice to know some people are nice.

I have this chronically, its not fun. NHS are to incompetent to diagnose & repair it. Ive been going round in circles for years now.

  • This is going to become a serious issue.

Those of us riding in primary position are encountering a lot of abuse from drivers who do not understand that we have a right to position ourselves safely.

Festus (Multigrooves), myself and David (skydancer) have all been physically attacked simply for our road positioning.

The police are currently sampling DNA from a car passenger who attacked me 2 weeks ago with a view to a GBH prosecution. If anyone else has similar cases then use your membership of LCC etc to help leverage media coverage. The police are keen to make mine a priority because it looks good for them, they get to use hi tech shit to solve a low tech problem and it is an issue that is in the public eye at the moment.

I have already spoken with David, though I am shocked and appalled at what happened I am in no way surprised by this.

At times this does feel like a fairly militant battle, but fuck I am always up for a bit of a verbal scuffle and to fuck someones day up, so we need to report them to the police, steal their keys etc.

The next time you think "should i report what just happened" fucking make the call, it does not take long and could save someone else from being attacked/injured at a later date.

The number of drivers who feel they need 3 feet clearance from parked cars but then expect bikes to travel 6 inches away is very high. The drivers have no comprehension of what makes for safe practice for cyclists.

The way we can improve this is reporting all similar cases and going for media coverage too. In this way we both address the actual drivers themselves and also the public perception of where is safe to be on the road. The number of weak cyclists who say to me "I am a really good considerate cyclist, i always ride in the gutter" leaves me really concerned as to how much re-education is required.

If you tolerate crap from motorists they will learn that their behaviour is acceptable and tolerated. Fuck that shit, we may lose the odd skirmish but we will eventually win the battle.

    Well said, Buddy.
    Glad you're back.

    What happened with you?

When I went to the Hospital (Homerton), the surgeon said to me that I won't need any key-hole surgery if you don't mind living the rest of your life with the distinct lump, aparantly this injury happens a lot in sports and pretty much everyone makes a full recovery. However he did say, by not having it corrected early on there is a very small chance you will have problems with it. I decided to just let it heal and live with the lump which I don't mind. Thankfully I don't think I'll have any long term complications.

However, he did say if I did need surgery it would be a much bigger procedure because it's already healed. Meaning a huge scar running along the clavical. Doesn't sound like there would be any complications with me getting that treatment if needed.

So why are you having so much trouble getting yours sorted?

  • Shit, skydancer, that's fucked up. Please keep us informed. Personally, I would love to see the culprit tortured to death but just knowing they received some 'legal' penalty will suffice. Hope you heal fully. Was it because you leaned?
