• I'm looking for a cycle computer that has pc connectivity. Can you guys recommend anything? The Garmin series of GPS units look quite good but a lot of money to spend on one of these.

I want it to do all the basic stuff like speed/average/distance/total. But the big thing for me is being able to connect it to my pc so I can plot graphs and look at total distance, speed, etc.

    Any ideas?

  • If it's just for post ride info, any android (and presumably others) phone can do this for you. My Tracks does it (and is free).

  • I did think of doing this but the battery life isn't going to be great over long distances.

  • I think you'd be surprised. Toured on a tandem using google maps + gps on a G1. Had extra batteries just in case, but during any given day, while on the bike, we didn't need to change it (although it was about to give out at the end).

  • I've just ordered a Garmin 500, took ages deciding but its not too pricey (£147) here:

You can add heart rate and cadence to that for a little bit more

  • Wait for a second-hand Edge 205 to come up? I got one of the forum cheapsies the other week as a present for mon pere, and once connected to the pc/uploaded to Garmin Connect it's just as graphs galore as my 705.

  • ^^
Looks like a good bet, still a bit more expensive than I'd like though.

    Edit meant the Garmin 500

I would do mate but ideally I want to pick it up as I'm off to France on the weekend.

  • So do any of the Cateye ones connect to a computer?

  • Polar HRM. Cheaper than a Garmin but not cheap.

  • Cheers Hippy.

I think I'm going to go with My tracks on the HTC Desire just for commuting and use a cheaper cycle computer when out on long rides.

+1 battery life on any smart phone rubbish if you're GPS'ing, even if you do power down everything else.... nothing more boring that having to carry the power cable everywhere u go.

  • Garmin 500 is awesome so far...........the GPS is superbly accurate. Haven't used the HRM yet but I'll sort that tomorrow.
