Has anyone find out how to stop their disc brakes from squealing like a pig?
I have Avid BB7 MTN brake, and it always seemed to be squealing a lots which is bothersome, even though the advantage of it let people know I'm coming down on them, I've adjusted the pads, clean it carefully, etc. yet it still squeal like a mother's for 2 months already.
any solution? I've read any kind of grease or cleaning product is a big no-no, also would a different brake pad make any difference? (much like the kool stop for road brakes).

Couple of suggestions...
are all the bolts on the mount and on the disc noice and toight?
Or are you supposed to set toe in?

forget to mention, bolt is nice and tight too, everything's appear to be by the book, the pad appear to be align perfectly.

Maybe search MTB forums? Just found this;
f its a squeaking sound then
- re-aline the caliper
- If that doesn't work re-aline it again (I am being serious)
- If that doesn't work go and get DISC BRAKE CLEANER!!! You can get it at an auto parts store for cheap. DON'T use anything else... you are just wasting your time. I don't care what anyone else says. Now clean the disc with it and use paper towel to wipe it down. The paper towel will be very black at first ... continue until it the the paper towel stays white. Clean the pads the same way. Now ride your bike at high speed and slam on the brake to mate the pad to the disc. People will argue saying don't slam on your brake, well don't listen to them. Do it my way.
If it is a howling sound then the brake is contaminated with oil. Then ... just do step three. You might (80% chance) need to replace the pads.

spend a while outside staring at the pads, also realise I need some kind of allen key that I don't have to adjust the other side, gah.
I'll wait till tomorrow where I can get that specific allen key, something between 4 and 5, 5's too big and 4's too small.

in my experience with BB7 they just start to squeal after being ridden in a rain or smthn - basically, when they get dirrrrry. then they stop squealing after a little while. i didn't have to do anything for it.
as long a they're functianal - is the sound really that annoying? -

I find it useful for everything! it get a bit annoying when people crossing the road thinking that I've done an emergency stop rather than slowing down gently.

It's a T25 torx bolt IIRC.

In Penang where I lived in Malaysia, there was this road up to the top of the biggest hill. The road was just over 3 miles long and climbs approx 800 metres. Steep as hell.
I can't remember how long it used to take to cycle up but think it was between an hour and a half and 2 hours.
If short on time we sometimes came straight back down, I had the XT parallelogram v-brakes at the time. They used to squeal ridiculously, reckon people could hear me from the bottom. Think it used to take about 10 - 15 mins to come back down, with the squealing non stop.
Now THAT was annoying!

The big difference is that those modified car handle like shit with it's oversized wheels, stiffen suspension and silly body tweak that does fuck-all beside providing the owner to have something to hold onto while dogging another bloke's missus.
:D

Now stall it there just one moment Mr. Scoble you roguish young boom bip you! My old Mini Works Cooper S has stiffened suspension, 13" x 8" rims and a shitload of poke and handles like a dream, left many an M3, Audi RS and various other big things looking embarassed both off the lights and in the twisties... Nothing wrong with "old frame with new component"... Bob your uncle thought?

Bought this frame off a fellow forumer.
Just finished the build. Decided not to go with period bits but to use up-to-date components and to lighten it as much as poss within my budget.rather lovely actually.
the stem seems really long, but still an attractive ride -

3ttt stem, 3ttt Competizione Gimondi bars.

Gum walls will be but still something like 25/28c, better saddle I'll assume you mean a less heavy one, so 3ttt will be. This one is really comfortable, only too heavy.
Picking up my new bike on Saturday. It's quite different to my Orrell...
Does anyone know where I could find a set like this (ideally NOS and not too expensive)?!
