in my experience with BB7 they just start to squeal after being ridden in a rain or smthn - basically, when they get dirrrrry. then they stop squealing after a little while. i didn't have to do anything for it.
as long a they're functianal - is the sound really that annoying?

I find it useful on the canal just tapping the brakes works way better than a bell...
