I see a few members always posting the same items here and on retrobike, ctc forum, bikeradar, TTforum though you never mention it on their threads. Is it because they are regular sellers or are those forums ok to share posts with lfgss? They sell nice stuff and they sell it here on a regular basis. I don't really see a problem with them posting here and retro bike. I look at both forums being part of our community. Like putting up ads on posted boards at different locations in your neighborhood.
I pull up everyone I see. Usernames I've never heard might stand out more because they tend to be the spammers. If VB changes the rules about classifieds then so be it. Until then.. items are to be listed exlusively to LFGSS.
Please feel free to point out the regulars abusing the rules and I'll take the same action.

The reason I asked was because I saw hippy tell someone to take his post down because he saw it on bikeradar.
"If you are selling your item via eBay or another site, and the audience is not restricted to the forum membership, then you should NOT post it on here as it will be deleted (read the first paragraph of this post again). Exception: Other people are allowed to discover your eBay advert and post it in the eBay/Craigslist finds thread, but YOU should NOT do this."

Organicorigin was thoroughly unhelpful when I tried to buy a frame. There was a problem with paypal (not my fault) and my attempts to resolve it and make alternative arrangements were met with ignore emails/pms/phone calls.
Ban him!

I disagree with this.
Fine, if someone is selling on ebay then yes, it's naughty because you have a certain commitment to ebay once you place your auction and it's unfair to play people off on this forum like that.
But for classified ads on other bike forums, what's wrong with that?? not everything gets snapped up here and people might just want to widen their chances a bit. To stop a genuine seller just trying to shift their stuff is a bit dumb IMO, especially when we let trade sellers dominate the classifieds on here without a word...

Ask Velocio to change the rules then.
I would say that as a bike head I don't want to see the same ad for your 30yo POS on 4 different cycling forums. I would also say, why should LFGSS host stuff that might sell elsewhere and gain LFGSS precisely fuck all other than increased hosting costs? Also, most of the people that spam their ads across multiple forums are just noobs only on here to widen their market - why should we help them do that? Trade sellers like hilarystone donate to the forum, thereby covering the costs involved with hosting their ads.

This is pretty poor defense isn't it...
Do you really trawl the classifieds on 4 bike forums? if so then you deserve to see the same ad a few times. In any case you are not being forced to look at it!
I think this rule is very good regarding bumtree and ebay and auction sites, but not for other bike forums.

Query: organicorigin http://www.lfgss.com/member4844.html
Has anyone had bad experience with this seller? i.e. Is there a good reason for me to ban him permanently?
I've been advised that he had failed to dispatch some items, but would like some first hand information before I ban him.
don't know about banning but certainly i bought a few things off him, took a while mind.
Bought some cxp33. in good nick he said. I say they are more square than round. Not good. Not a happy customer.

I don't think it should be made obligatory to donate to the forum, that would not be a donation.
Although I think it is always the right thing to do if you sell regularly, others might not share that opinion.I think it should be for those, who come here only to trade.
We all remember exchange of messages between certain "sellers" who - despite selling nice stuff - take the rest of us for dumb mugs.

I dont sell but I donated. It's think a forum is like a cafe/pub, if you wanna hang around, buy a drink and dont just sit there and be a cheapskate ;)
what? and again, what?!..

I recently had a bad experience when attempting a transaction with this user. He had promised to sell me 4 pairs of continental olympic tubulars which I needed urgently to take up to Manchester for the national squad, as they had run out and the distributor had none in the country.
Once I had deposited £850 in the sellers bank account he stopped answering my PMs and emails, and only after a month of constant pestering he eventually forwarded me "his address" so I could arrange collection. On arriving at the given address, a flat above a kebab shop on the Uxbridge road, I rang the buzzer several times and tried the seller's mobile, all to no avail. I noticed the front door was quite flimsy, and looked to have recently been forced open, in fact it was slightly ajar so I pushed it open and wandered into the hall.
I called out a couple of times but got no reply so decided to go up the stairs to see if there was another door, when I got to the next floor I could see the door to the flat was open so I went and knocked , no answer. I was getting a bit pissed off by now, so just walked straight into the flat and to be honest I was rather surprised at what I found.
The whole flat appeared to be entirely empty, bare floorboards, no curtains, fixtures or furniture, and certainly no sign of the Continental Olympic tubs! Wandering into what I assumed to be the bedroom I found a similarly bare room, except there was a pile of what looked like women's wigs in the corner (of varying colours and styles) and a trestle table (the kind that decorators use for wallpapering) which had on it a frozen chicken (medium) from "Iceland", a rusty 17mm open ended spanner and a cassette tape, which on closer inspection was a blank, C90 with "The Osmonds" written crudely on the label in green felt tip.
At this point I was starting to get suspicious that this may not be the correct address but then I heard some movement in the building, it sounded like someone was dragging something heavy around in the room above, maybe a bag of laundry or something. I called out "hello!" and the noise stopped. Nothing...
After a minute the noise began again so I again called out "hello!" again silence..
This happened three or four time before I realised I was late for work and make a hasty exit, none the wiser and still £850 down and no tubs for the squad to race on. I did however notice a swarthy man wearing a dirty looking fedora and denim suit standing outside the kebab shop watching me as I left, I thought nothing of it at the time as my bike was still locked and unmolested. It's been several months now and the seller will still not answer my emails, I think he should be banned!
