Stratton Stolen!

Posted on
  • Hi all,
I've posted this in the stolen bike threads but wanted to flag up here. Tonight some little toe rag climbed over my wall and stole my beloved Orange Stratton. This bike is distinctive, bright orange stratton with a custom stamped Brooks swift with "PQR" with Mavic Open Pro.

The only difference to the above is the bars have now been chopped and have no grips and the B17 is a Swift
If anyone see's this kill/arrest the rider. If someone sees it Brick Lane then please do buy it for me after taking pictures of the vendor so I can then track them down.

It was stolen from between 6.30 and 10.30pm this evening (Thursday) from off Liverpool Road near Highbury & Islington

  • Sorry about the theft. Luckily it's pretty distinctive.

Was it freelocked, or did they use cutters?

  • It was locked up in my yard. They climbed a wall to get to it, got the lock off it and rolled it out down the side, through the neighbours and onto liverpool road

  • Fucking cunts.

  • OK, a bit of thinking we think it was the same guy that I caught stealing from here a couple of months ago http://www.lfgss.com/thread43082.html

Last time he almost got away but I caught him and he was heading north on Holloway road. Not much of a description but he was a wiry black guy (racist), about 5'9, in late 20's/early 30's with short/shaved hair wearing joggers. He couldn't ride fixed luckily. I thinkit was the same guy as we have time pegged it between 7pm and 10pm and he clearly knew to get over the wall at that time as almost every day I ride in to work and then am back at about 7-8pm. The bike was there all day today so hence the thinking it was someone who had already seen it and me get home in the past.

Going back to the bike, the other distinguishing feature was that it had orange odyssey pedals that I had sawed the tabs out of the end and so was ridng with black straps.

    So main items to spot:
    1) Orange Stratton Frame
    2) New Brooks Swift with "PQR" stamped on it
    3) Orange Odyssey pedals (hacksawed) and black velcro straps
    4) Silver chopped risers with no grips/tape and a black dirt harry brake
    5) Pair of open pros front with black dura ace hub and quite fat armadillo tyre, rear with Condor hub

Needless to say, i loved this bike, I have reported it and if the police don't work then hoping the forum might. If someone sees it down Bricklane or Gum tree/ebay then if you can't get hold of me then buy it and i'll re-imburse you. I have a wedding this weekend out of town so can't go stalking the usual spots

  • That totally sucks. Good luck in getting it back.
Looks big. What's the frame size?

  • do i sometimes see this bike parked near aldwych, bottom of kingsway? if not, just want to be sure cos i do see an orange stratton and don't want to accost the wrong fella. will commit to memory some of the more bespoke details. hope you get it back dude

  • That's his usual locking spot, I saw it almost daily for the past few months so it's indeed his bike.

+1 I've seen what looks like this bike locked up at the Aldwych end of Waterloo bridge in the island bit. Is this Dwayne's old frame? Stratton logo on the rear of the seat tube combined with colour is pretty distinctive. I'll keep my eyes peeled (see what I did orange and all that). Shit luck, let's hope you get it back.

  • Where is PQR stamped on to the seat? Some 14 year old cnut came into my work on exmouth market tonight and tried to sell me a brooks, they always do round there. will probably be back tomorrow. Will keep my eyes peeled for it.

  • Cheers for all the messages guys, does make me think there is a chance of someone spotting it.

I work in the building just next to those bike stands on the North side of Waterloo Bridge, so yup, that'd have been my bike you'd have seen. It is Dwaynes old frame - definatley don't think there are many around London.

The top tube was about 58cm so fairly large.

Hart - the PQR was on big letters on the top, similar to the pic here but on a Swift and not a B17

  • It sounds like it's got to be someone who lives near you then, if they know what times you're around etc. Means you'll see them again. Especially if you get another bike on insurance - they'll be watching you for that.

I'm thinking of buying a sonic alarm, like the one Clefty has. At least then they can't steal our bikes silently.

  • Definitely likely to be someone near you, sound like they've seen you come in/out like clockwork and be able to nick your bike.

Hence why I though it would get stolen in Aldwych instead.

  • This is one of the few photos I have of the frame.

    Hope you get it back!

  • To the bike spotters, yes PQR has been parking this on the railings on Waterloo Bridge at the Strand/Aldwych ... Its pretty distinctive anyway, a tangeriney orange (think it's faded a bit since dmc's photo?), with a massive Stratton down the back of the seat tube.

Good luck Phil. Consider actually comissioning someone to go and stake out Brick Lane on your behalf as I know you're going to be away.

This thread will shorly be merged no doubt.

  • Hi everyone,

Thanks for the support. I can't make Brick Lane this weekend but if anyone does see the bike then please get it for me and I'll re-imburse you. There is another picture below, the pedals are now orange odyssey and the bars are shorter and missing the grips but still looks similar.

I've emailed a pdf with pictures and a desription to condor, BLB, Bricton cycles, holloway cycles and Jazz Cycles in case the bike gets taken in for a price quote.

Thanks again, all and any help is much appreciated
