  • I've been meaning to post a 'proper' picture of this bike. Plenty of you have already seen me out and about on it over the last couple of months, since it's inaugural ride down to Southend last month. But here it is for anyone who's interested.

It's made of 853, 725 stays, 'R' forks. Sleeve BB, very skinny fillet brazing with an external seat collar, shot stays, built for 28s with guards, direct fit mudguard bosses on rear. Cast stainless steel ends with faces polished, engraved seat stay bridge and fork crown, old style Dave Yates decals (the old M Steel crests cut out to just the DY monogramme), finished with a very subtle silver sparkle in the laquer.

It's pretty high, a slight drop on the top tube, and a fairly short length TT, with a 73deg head tube and 74 degree seat tube. Fits me beautifully with a pretty upright position, dead comfy in the drops for my poor old back and tyrannosuarus-arms.

Built it with a bit of a mish mash of parts, all royce down the bottom (hubs laced with DT to debadged Ambrosio Excellence), Campag pista cranks 165, cheap spuds, nitto B105 RD bars (horrible looking dummy lever, but a great thing!), shimano r650 longish drop caliper, 90 mm thompson Elite, Sotto Voce 1", fancy stripped nitto post, Ti Regal. The bike has no cockpit, I'm glad to say. Randos and Velo Orange muddies. Oh, and Fizik. FIZIK mutherfuckers, read it and weep.

EDIT Oops forgot to say thanks to the people who suppleid things and help build it ...

Thanks Dave Yates, jimbilly and broken777 for services rendered, Brixton Cycles, hassan, mikec, henry,Tokyo Fixed, and a couple of web dealers for bits and bobs.
