Hello.
Been looking around this forum quite a bit over the last couple of weeks, thought I ought to sign up and maybe get involved a bit.
Am very much just starting out with the whole thing; I started a new job about 9 months ago and thought it'd be a neat idea to get a bike, having not ridden since I used to do a paperround when I was 13 or whatever, and knowing (somehow) about the whole fixie thing I knew I'd have to get one of those - the whole idea of it, the approach or attitude just totally appealed to me, how it's serious about cycling, and fixing up bikes and doing stuff yourself, but with a flippant, potentially hilariously pretentious yet also self-aware dimension to it all. Also I am an insufferable wannabe-fashionista, so I needed something to go with the American Apparel track jacket and lame cycling cap (actually I got the cap when I bought the bike, but they were pretty much a package deal). So I have a 2010 Langster, not only was it the first time I'd properly ridden a bike for 10 years but the first time I'd ridden a hilariously light proper road bike with thin tyres and steep head tube angle and drop handlebars and everything, had it on freewheel for the first few months while I got used to not falling off and getting blown sideways in crosswinds etc., then got it 'fixed' about 6 months ago. I always wanted to get into the maintenance/fixing stuff up side of things, and enjoyed continually finding ever more ways in which I'd been taking terrible care of my bike (wait, you have to pump the tyres up?), and am now starting to do more serious (and vaguely terrifying) things myself as opposed to taking it in to the shop - first proper thing I've done is tighten the chain tension up (that thing had stretched a worrying amount, and is probably fucked) but now I'm in the process of buying a bunch of new bits which I'm planning to fit myself. I'm hoping to post up a bit of a 'before and after' in the OTP thread when I get round to taking some pictures.
Anyway I hope to stick around on here a bit, it seems a pretty neat place. I'm currently in Leeds, might be moving to Manchester in a bit, but in any case I hope to get involved with things in some kind of way. We'll see. I don't like the internet much tho, but hey, so it goes. Anyway, hi guys.
