Leave your brakes on and just get the hang of it on the fly. Going down Caldy Hill should sort it. You will learn fairly fast that way.
On a riding note, i was thinking about trying to kill myself riding to Llangollen, via Chester, Kinnerton, Corwen road then over the pass. Parents have a static that way so at the very least means drinks that night, then cycle back the next day. Be the furthest I have ever ridden fixed and there are some largish climbs, and some scary-arsed descents. Be a laugh though, depending on how well my lungs work afterwards.
