  • im thinking about gettin a giant bowery seen a good deal on a 08 model, im about 5'11 what size should i get ?

Medium, you will have loads of pin showing but that's how it should be. Enjoy.

  • I'd have to say go for the bowery as i recently bought one. I've taken off the brakes and replaced the drops with flat bars and it's a great to ride.

  • i got a bowery and since my initial requests for help i must say ive enjoyed it immenseley

  • I'm riding a Bowery on a 16 mile daily commute with a couple of sharp climbs- swapped the 48 front for a Suntour 42 & it's sweet as a nut..... having track ends put on my road Kalavinka frame & putting discs on a Cotic Roadrat ss jobbie wit' drops for some sophistication, but as my alround commuter & beater bike the Giant does the job.... creaks like a motherfucker, but I'm told that's 'cos the forks need swapping out (known NG point).

  • If your interested, i've been through two 08 lagers (1 stolen, one crashed out) and i am looking to get another one on insurance, only shame is the 2009 model(s) seem to have lost their look completely (in my opinion) however it sounds like the white is still popular for some reason, still good to ride on, and with he brakes closer, you can have a relaxed riding position without sacrificing brakes (handy if you run it freewheel)

  • Ed, thats too bad. But why go for the Bowery again? Personally, I love it, but after owning 2, I think you might want to consider something else?

In that price range, I think these might suffice - Pinnacle Bachelor or maybe the Langster

On the other hand, maybe you might track down a bargain in Classifieds section.

  • £360 for a Langster.

Now they're firmly out of fashion, demand etc, and on every street corner this actually looks like a great value quick commuter. Just needs some electrical tape over the decals :)

  • i love my bowery, ive probably said that many times in this thread
but i think if you can pick one up for 350 or less
then your getting a great deal

  • ...unless you bought one for £225 a couple of months ago!

    :)

  • i got mine for 270

  • Apologies to drag up an old thread. But having done a search, could not see if anyone has tested the se lager 2010? Does anyone know a shop that has them in stock to take out for spin?

  • Evans?

  • ...unless you bought one for £225 a couple of months ago!

    :)

    i got mine for £200!!

  • Funny reading the above comments about upgrading the Bowery, started out stock, then ended up pretty much with everything bar the cranks replaced.

Then morphed into the second one, in the quest for something not seen around as much.

The bowery is still in the family though, as it now belongs to the misses, so in a different guise again. It was and still is a good bike, it was my first foray into riding fixed and I reckon you can't go to far wrong with them, I even ended up with a Plug as well and the difference between the two is like chalk and cheese.

  • Fair point on the Evans idea. But my mate went to the "largest floor space in London" and had zilch, wanted to test one would cost £50 deposit to get one from the warehouse only refunded if bought and would rather come from a local shop........anyway..... it was only on the off chance that someone happened to see one.

    But liking the recommendations, thanks.

  • Tried a mates SE before i ended up buying a Track from Edinburgh Bicycle Cooperative....didn't treally help that the SE was too small for me

They have them in stock in blb and are getting them in next week at triton cycles.

Anyone have any experience with triton?

  • Triton are excellent. Luke who works there, is a forumenger, and a really sound bloke.

  • Cheers, will pop down there when they get them in next week, they are 20% off as well

  • Call first, as the shop is smaller than you might imagine, and they will be happy to bring extra stock from the warehouse should you wish it.

You still loving your bowery? I've been thinking about riding fixed for a while And my current Giant defy racer Which I have ridden for 2 years has not let me down in the slightest. so Thinking I cant go wrong with a giant for a fixed bike

  • My Bowery is in the shop at the mo. I've been using my Capo 5 predominently over the past many months.
Ever since the frame swap, its been my preferred ride.

I don't ride fixed by the way. Tried 3 times, and didn't get on with it. SS, yes, but not FG.

Ohh?? does this mean you are considering selling the bowery then? btw what's wrong with it that has made it stay in the shop since the beginning of man? haha
how come you didn't like fixed?
I've been thinking of going fixed but it'd be a waste of money to see that i don't get on with it, may I ask for your thoughts on disliking fixed?

  • Nothing really wrong with the Bowery. Wasn't thinking of selling it just yet, but might in the future. It needed new hub bearings. Also, a new seatpost, because the one I had on it, wouldn't keep the saddle tightly enough in position, and would sometimes tilt upwards.

Not sure why I didn't get on with fixed, but I may keep trying. It might b that I had my left kneecap rebuilt when I was 11 years old, so it floats a bit. I can't honestly say its that, but I just don't feel in control enough.

  • Hmm well my giant bike hasn't let me down which leads me to think Giant is a wicked company with reasonable prices haha. I had a gander at your photo's btw and your makeup of the bike looks sweet.
I'll take your word for it and go for the purchase of one. :)
