  • Now surely you only swap shirts with the team you play in the final? if you make the final? however probably a good idea, might be able to hawk a few as well.

Do we want it to say "Birmingham Bike Polo" or just "Birmingham UK" or "BHM Bike Polo" or "probably the best bike polo team from Birmingham EVER" ???? My deadline is 9am tomorrow morning so any input/suggestions additions etc. before then welcome.

  • i like 'birmingham bike polo' if there's room. if not, 'bhm bike polo'.

  • birmingham bike polo sounds good to me. make mine a medium

  • so excited now.

can't wait for 3.30am friday morning. no, wait. can't wait til first beer at the airport at 6.30am. no, wait. can't wait til we actually fucking get to the court at 11am!

  • take a shit ton of pics when you get chance

  • Tournament Report

Such an excellent weekend - the best tournament I've been to so far. The location and organisation were incredible and the weather was perfect too. Polo on proper (rounded corner) courts, followed by swimming in the lake is nigh on heaven.

Black Stabbath's Euro lineup performed well, considering the incredibly high standard of play - so many one-team cities are so strong (copenhagen beat bad for example!). We drew a pretty competetive group including Toros from Munich (I think) who are one of the top 3-4 teams in Europe supposedly.

Ben opened the scroring in our first game, but we lost 5-1. Then we had a few more similar defeats, although we scored in every game except vs Toros and we weren't playing conservatively - we decided we'd prefer to lose 5-1 than 3-0 for example, so as soon as we conceded 3 goals and were running out of time we played no goalie, in retrospect this maybe wasn't the best strategy as we didn't score any goals with this method.

In our fourth (or so) group game, we drew Sparta who are a bunch of Chileans who live in Paris, all breakless fixed and with a reputation for playing dirty. Sarah from Conos reckoned we could beat them, but we weren't hopeful. The game started and Ben charged then somehow the chance came and I took an early goal. After that we played so much better than previously and eventually won 4-3 (hat trick from me, 1 more from Ben, I think).

So nice to win a game, which put us above ASBO from Manchester, which was my realistic target at least.

London's Cosmic got to the final, and took Equipe to 4-4, but the Swiss were too strong - I don't think they've lost in a tournament!

  • Keep 'em peeled for more photos from Dan, but here's a few tasters:

  • Well done chaps.

I tried to spot how you were doing on the main polo forum/results board but I couldnt see you.

  • we were knocked out at the group stages - all of those photos of the knockout stages were from sunday. all the teams that beat us did pretty well though, so i don't feel so bad about it. and we won a game. and we scored 7 goals. so much better than last year.

  • a couple of snippets of stabbath in this video (part 2): the second bit of us looks pretty good, even though we lost that game 5-1!
