  • You see, I think this might be my problem. I've never really given reggae much time because everyone who proclaims themselves a big fan* seems to be such a posturing weapon that I can't take it seriously. Like most genres, just listening to what gets subsumed into mainstream culture is never really a good start if you're looking to appreciate it I guess. Anyone willing to recommend me a good starting point into really decent dub? PM's please, I don't want to clog this thread up even more.

    *this is totally in my experience. I'm sure there are loads of big reggae fans who don't think they're Jah born and stuck in a white mans body, I just haven't met any. My entire experience with reggae nights has been 'culturally aware' blowhards trying to turn enjoying a bit of spliff and having a few Trojan compilations into a fucking personality. Tragic and unbelievably annoying.

    My Advice is don't bother. Listen to Metal Instead.
