I think Mrs S and the other top girls are philosophical about, and largely in awe of, what Julia has achieved this year. Sarah Storey is the only girl to have got close to her, and she is after all an Olympic gold medallist. To put Julia's ride yesterday into context, she would have been 7th in the men's field. It was quite extraordinary in what were very difficult conditions.
Mrs S knows that she can't beat Julia. However, as is the case for all tt'ers, she has her goals (both in terms of timing and result) and this is what motivates and drives her. Next year, she will come back stronger and faster. She still knows that she won't get close to Julia but that won't stop her coming back for more.
