I did Paris to Blackpool last year on my 60s Hetchins curly and old steel is definitely the way forward for long distance rides! The only annoyance was 10 speed down tube shifters compared to others on fandangled 20/30 speed sti lightweight machines meant it was hard to keep pace with a couple of the really strong riders as my ratios fell awkwardly, as for comfort though my arse definitely appreciated the smooth, forgiving steel.
