I have a 161mm Velosteel built on to a mavic open pro rim and running a 16t . . . they are a beautifully made bit of kit, just make sure they are serviced before building them up as they dont come that well lubed from the factory (i am sure bikefix will do this for you). 161 mm is fine for a 120mm spaced track frame. It runs nice and smooth, brakes progressively, and one you get used to it you can skid like mad if thats your thing.
The chainstay clip size doesnt really matter, i have an oval one, no idea what size, i just bent it to the shape of the frame. Prob 16mm do the trick with a steamroller, and if that wrong you can by a pretty much identical clip from a hardware store for about a quid. I did put a rubber pad like you get with a light/lock clamp to protect the frame under the clip.
This thread has info . .

Thanks bud,
I saw that thread before... it's actually the one that made me realise there was an alternative to the Shimano hub. I'm glad you've had experience with it! I have a Schwinn cruiser and love the simplicity and clean bars but I'm just not really into the cruiser thing anymore...
Time to get ordering!

But I don't understand... fixed gears with lots of toe overlap are the best pub bikes! or am I wrong?

Worst thread resurrection ever.
I'm building a (literal) pub bike and I'd like to use a coaster brake. After looking around I'm going to go with the the Velosteel hub which Bikefix sell. When I've looked at Shimano coaster hubs, that's it. It's from Shimano, it's a coaster brake hub, that's it.
The Velosteel has choices of teeth, I'd like 16. But I also need to know the chainstay clip size (!?!) and the axle length I need. Since I don't actually have the frame in front of me as I've not ordered it yet, I don't know the sizes I need - although I'd like to get the wheels built before I get the frameset which will be a Surly Steamroller.
I can have either a 161mm, 171mm or 180mm axle. The chainstay clip can be either oval or round... I'm guessing round - and 13mm, 15mm, 16mm or 20mm.
I know it's a real long shot but could anyone offer any advice?!
Thanks so much!
