Quite a lots of commuter tend to ride bicycle ill suited for commuting (even road bike), the other factor is bicycle set-up, if your Pompino is set the same as your road bike, then you may find it harsher instead of setting the handlebar a bit higher to make commuting more enjoyable (i.e. closer to a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Randonneuring set-up).
and last advice, don't take advice from internet seriously.
