Seat Post query

  • Just purchased an old dawes and would like to get a new seatpost with an inch or two more length as the one currently fitted is quite short.

It currently has a birmalux seatpost size 26.3mm which goes in and out very easily but also looks like it has been greased in the past. I've seen quite a few 26.4mm and 26.2mm seatposts for sale from HilaryStone here on the forum and was wondering if you guys would recommend purchasing a 26.4 or the 26.2 and maybe using a shim???

any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

    Danny

  • try the 26.4

what is this i don't even

  • know

  • it has been greased in the past.

  • I've heard that it's recommended to always grease the tip (up to and inch) before insertion.

  • which is why i am confused as to your comment about it being greased as if it was a bad thing?

  • I'm thinking he probably means something like this: '' a 26.3mm stem comes out very easily...(ponder) though it has been greased...(ponder)...maybe that's why"
Whatever though... a 26.4mm stem is probably the best bet.
