Track action in the next few weeks

Posted on
  • Without fighting my way through the very user friendly BC calendar, can anyone tell me if there are any track meetings on at Herne Hill over the next 2 weekends?

Just got back from the British Master and would love some more racing before the EU Masters at the end of the month.

    :-)

  • oh yes... this Saturday 10 July is the SE track champs (medal opportunities if you missed any at the masters!)
Erm and London Champs 31 July. I think that the BC calendar might have been made better btw, though I haven't bothered to fully check.

  • @stella - I live in Brentford (West London) which falls into Central Region so I can't ride the SE Track Champs and Central hide their champs in the track league... strange but true.

Oh and I did pick up medals at the Masters. Rode and finished every event. Fastest Qualifier in the Sprint then went on to take the Bronze. Bronze in the Kilo, somewhere at the back of the field in the Scratch, 4th in the Pursuit and 8th overall in the 30km Points (4th in my Cat). So a good weekend.

    :-)

@RPM - cheers. Looks like I'll have to make a plan to get to some Track League events. Getting out the office in time should be interesting.

    :-(

  • I was sure you would have some ribbon & metal!
Might be worth checking about the SE champs, I'm sure I remember some chat about making entry open to all (to get rider numbers up) but only SE riders elgible for the Champs part. I could have imagined all this so don't quote me, but might be worth enquiring.

  • So does this mean I cannot ride the SE champs because I live in North London? That can't be right can it?

  • Someone more knowledgeable will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think to enter the SE track champs then you need to be registered with a club who are based in the SE Region?

  • Like Rollapaluza cc?

  • Rollaz are East if I am not mistaken

Not really hidden! All separate events from the track league except the 20k which is combined with a track league 20k. Pursuit and team pursuit of different nights to the league. Sprints combined into the same evening as a league meet.

  • Well I rode the SE Champs for RPLZ last year. But I think it is your address as the rider that is relevant, not the club's area. I can't remember though, it's a bit confusing.

    #unhelpful post sorry

  • That's right stelle, it's the individual rider's place of residence, Adam falls central.

  • ok so I am staying at a friends in SE London

  • Will that cut it?

  • Ask the organiser?

  • Your Region is based on your registered address is on the BC records. It is printed on your license. "Staying with friends" does not cut it.

The rules state that you can only compete in YOUR regional champs and no other. However some organisers will allow riders from outside the region to participate but they would not be eligible for medals.

    From the BC rules:
    18 REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
18.1 A Region may hold Championships at such distances as it may decide (except that the minimum distances for Regional Road Championships shall be senior 130 km (80 miles), junior 80 km (50 miles)), subject to the permission of the Board being previously obtained.
18.2 Two or more adjacent Regions may hold Joint Championships.
18.3 Individual Regional Championships shall be open only to members who reside in that Region. A rider may only compete in the Individual Regional Championship of one region in any one year.
18.4 A person whose licence is registered in the name of a foreign club may, provided he fulfils all other requirements, compete in the Championships(s) of the Region in which he would normally reside when in Great Britain.

Well putting the Championship events into a track league is kind of hiding them. In most regions the championship is a event on it's own just like the Nationals. This is what SE region do. It's a championship after all, not a filler event at a week night league meeting.

I can't get out to Reading in the middle of the week for a track league event in the hope that I might get to ride the regional champs. Unfortunately due to BC's postcode lottery I fall into Central even tho the closest track to me is within the South Eastern region. That's life...

This is true, a regional needs to be on a weekend, I know for a fact several riders from central cannot ride in their own champs because it's on a weekday night, or spread over several nights!

A proper standalone, daytime event would be better for a Championships. Sorry, and I don't mean to offend anyone (I know how hard it is to put on these events) but I think Reading have got it wrong this time.
