Well there you go. The "infallible" Sheldon Brown can be wrong sometimes. So he ain't the Pope after all.
Just because a grumpy US guy who we all respect ran a one-man rant campaign to change a word that all Europeans already well understand, we don't have to follow suit.
Most people say "mech" for that component, but derailleur ain't wrong, it's just different. Funnily enough, I have an Athena derailleur sitting on my desk here, but I think I want to keep it.
