Been watching these getting installed gradually for a while now. Tried and failed to get a job working on the project but have kept an eye on their progress with interest since.
According to the blurb on the stand on southwark street the first 30 minutes is free. The late return fee is something quite high like £40 and maximum damage/non return fee is £400. I wonder what happens if you return a bike (presumably registering as such on your account)... then some vindictive little turd comes along and kicks the sh*t out of it... how are they going to know what state the bike was in when you returned it?
i don't know any hard facts about how the schemes i've seen first hand are doing in paris, amsterdamn, cologne and dublin... but they *seemed *to be working okay... if a little underused. i hope it does work out here.
